8. The beauty of it is that Mr. Obama, as a Constitutional scholar, will treat the Constitution |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-19-08 04:31 AM by political_Dem
with reverence. Mr. Bush's blatant disregard of the Constitution shamed the American people. It also put us into perilous times which threatened our civil liberties. His soiling on the Constitution was a like a slap in the face of everything that is taken as sacred in America. It also rubbed off the veneer that America was a democratic country. He, in essence, made the United States truly into a dictatorship. Rumsfeld and Cheney also helped this idea along.
There were some days, I would have to wonder whether we were truly like the more oppressive regimes in this planet.
It was as if we needed the UN to help monitor our elections and oversea our regime at times.
It was that terrible.
I hope that Mr. Obama will try to correct the past so that we don't have the draconian policies under Bush in place. Unfortunately, changing the mindset of the folks who blindly follow RW hate radio is much harder.

9. McCain forgot the Constitution as well... |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-19-08 08:12 AM by Born_A_Truman
Very early in the primary season, McCain was on television--I think it was one of the biography shows of the candidates--and he was talking about being at the Naval Academy and how, as a midshipman, he swore to defend his country. My husband got very upset and said that's "bull****, you swear to uphold the Constitution!"
Hubby also graduated from the NA (he can't remember his rank, but probably not 5th from the bottom), and he said that it isn't something you can forget or confuse. At that moment he said he would never vote for McCain. BTW, he's a Republican. He voted for Barack Obama.
