Ironically, most here suffer from the same flaw in thinking as the Other Side.
Many here seem to have fully internalized the "strategy" of "we need to destroy the other side" in order to win.

The Western Paradigm.

Externalize and destroy. In War, economics, medicine, law enforcement, you name it. It is the way it is done here.

Forget about strengthening weak areas, shoring up support, finding common ground, wholistic approaches to problems.

Just bomb the shit out of it, right? It has always worked, right?

Wrong.

Obama has got the Eastern thing going on. He understands a more subtle approach to solving problems is needed. Like Eastern medicine as opposed to a Western, he is trying to strengthen the whole body (politic). He knows that cutting something out or bombing it into submission would only cause reactions and counter-reactions that would not be conducive to solving our nation's problems.

We elected a wise, adult. And so many here are acting like children.

We were lucky. Let's let the man do what he is good at. He will be President of the entire nation. Not a 51% percenter like Bush, or like many here seem to shortsightedly desire.

Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 09:48 PM by SoonerPride
And I voted for that.
Didn't the members of this site vote for that?
Did I miss something there?

Now people act like they were in a coma for 2 years and are shocked SHOCKED I TELL YOU! that Obama meant what he said.

We work with Republicans.
We keep Lieberman so we can get more shit passed.
We make more friends.
We reach out and embrace others.

Damn, people round here want revenge and that's not what they voted for AT ALL.

4. I agree with everything except Lieberwhore
They kept Lieberman to show good faith that they are trying to work with everyone no matter the stripes or the knives in the back.

Lieberman is to much of an egomaniac and he is guaranteed to fuck up. The Dems are giving him enoough albatros rope so he can finish himself off. It's just a matter of time....I think this was a shrewd move.

Alaska has a new Democratic Senator we are at 58 Senetors, there are moderate Repugs that will vote with Dems. Lieberman is not essential to getting things passed.

3. Nope. I just want the Constitution back and a Truth and Reconciliation
Commission. I have this little thingy about freedom, rights, and such. An ignorant public will continue to put bad people in office or believe absurdities that affect us all.

Some Democratic voters vote against Republicans.

Same vote, different motivations.

8. clinton had the same approach.
Cave on the big issues, go along to get along, meet them halfway and then hope they play nice, too.

How did that work out for him?

10. Well said
and we forget to realize that if anything is going to get done it will be with deal making, the bread and butter of politics.
We do not serve our world if we engage in the same type of thinking as the republicans. It is not a weakness it is a strength.

14. or , you could go jump in a lake.
your statement is so naive as to be dangerous. this argument--if you don't agree with me and obama you are a child, if you don't want to unite with the enemies of the united states, not to mention the world, the same people who were trampling the constitution, the same people who when they were in power were willing to thoroughly abuse the legal and political process to achieve the most dastardly of aims --is about as childish as it gets.

president of the enitre nation? that's just the kool aid talking.

I suppose I really can't blame republicans for treating us like they do. When fucking idiots practically BEG to be treated that way, hell - I'd probably do the same.

Without those blind Bush supporters do you think we would be in this mess?

You forget that people from all political backgrounds voted for Obama.

How did that "moderate" approach work out for Clinton? Oh, yeah that's right it decimated the Democratic Party and it has led this country to the brink of economic and financial ruin.

When you staff your administration it sends out a clear message. I think the message that is being sent is this is Clinton Part II. It was an administration full of sleaze, corruption, and horrendously bad policies that have severely damaged this country.

This country is going to go through some very difficult times. The only way the American People will stick by the President is if they feel like they can trust him. So far, I'd say things aren't looking to good on that front.

18. Feeling a little preachy?
First you present an over-simplified account of western vs eastern paradigms and then you smugly call others short-sighted and childish. If you have a valid point here it's lurking somewhere behind your arrogance.

I will read more on that. It is interesting how culture shapes our outlook. Maybe part of his reserved nature is Eastern as well.
