Finding common ground we can believe in.
Edited on Wed Nov-19-08 10:42 AM by Skwmom
Political labels - oh how far we have come. We are no longer just liberals or conservatives.

There are Liberal-Corporatists and Conservative-Corporatists.

There are Liberal-Neocons and regular old Conservative Neocons.

There are Liberal-Corporatist-Neocons and Conservative-Corporatist-Neocons.

Then there are plain old conservatives and moderates (though moderate seems to be the label of choice for many liberal-corporatists) who are NOT corporatists or neocons.

If you are just a plain old liberal (or progressive) you are GASP, one of the crazy left. (Though take cheer, that is how they would have categorized many of our great historical leaders).

Recent Supreme Court appointments were made to further the corporatist philosophy and agenda. Everyone focused on where the individuals stood on abortion and other cultural issues. But these appointments were corporatists, who believe in defending the rights of the corporation over the rights of the people.

The corporatists and neocons have found common ground because war is big business. So finding common ground isn't always a good thing.

But finding common ground is not always a bad thing. I have talked to Democrats, Republicans, and Independents who believe that this country has been taken over by big money, corporatists, lobbyists, and neocons who will destroy the middle-class, bankrupt this country and decimate our military. So far, you have to admit they have been on quite a roll.

The corporatists and neocons (both liberals and conservatives) have driven this country into a ditch (though the hole we are in is really much deeper than a ditch). Now is the opportune time to purse this common ground.

1. And the answer is...
Edited on Wed Nov-19-08 10:31 AM by BeFree
...increased socialism. The opposite of corporatism is socialism, imo.

Socialism by its very nature requires groups of people coming together as one entity to further the people's goals. As it is, government is that group.

Government as envisioned by our forefathers is socialism manifested in today's world. Gov builds roads, schools, and the justice system, keeps us safe from wars (eh?), and otherwise protects us from the ravages of unfettered capitalistic corporatists.

You want a fairer system? Go socialist.

2. Of course, if you don't believe in unfettered capitalism you must be a socialist.
You think they would come up with a smarter argument.

3. They
...don't need a smarter argument, they have the money, power and the glory. And we the people keep giving them more and more.

We need to just say no. We are in a round about way, by not buying cars, shopping the stores as much and by electing Obama. Together, we can wind down this capitalistic bubble if we just concentrate on our brothers and sisters and what each of us really needs to survive.

4. Obama is elected. Whether he turns out to be a Liberal-Corporatist, or a
Liberal-Corporatist-Neocon remains to be seen

5. meaningless drivel.
and you have a firmly made up little minds- and it's about as closed as it could possibly be. You don't for one second entertain the possibility that Obama could be something beyond your little sticker labels or that he could be a good president who takes on corporate excesses.

whatthefuckever.

6. I've always found that when you hit on the truth, you really strike a nerve.

7. gad. I've always found that people that recite that hoary old chestnut
don't have an argument to put forth. but I do find it funny as hell that people who sanctimoniously prattle on about how they are the holders of truth- truth to power, truth supposedly hitting a nerve, are usually intellectually bankrupt.

Thanks for the cliches, dear.

8. Sanctimonious? So now wanting our government to represent the people and not the corporations
is sanctimonious?

About being intellectually bankrupt. I think the corporatists have cornered that market (along with being morally bankrupt).
They talked a good game and we hear again and again how brilliant they are. Yeah, that free trade and deregulation has worked wonders for this country. The stupidity of it all truly is mind-boggling. And wanting to put those people back in charge borders on insanity.
