And it does not have to do with her being Hispanic (I am Hispanic, too) or that she has a heavy accent speaking English, but I do think that she is too partial to NYC and would have a hard time representing well the needs of Upstate New York. I think that Andrew Cuomo is a good choice and if you want someone qualified to complete Clinton's term, in a caretaker role, why not Elizabeth Holtzman (she recently wrote a book about impeaching George W. Bush) or...do I dare to say...Geraldine Ferraro? :wow:

1. Nydia Velazquez is my rep
and I think she does a very poor job representing my district. She probably has the most liberal/progressive district in NY and not only did she suggest that there would be problems with Obama getting the hispanic vote but she was against universal health care a year ago.

I would love to vote her out of my district.

2. She is not a good Representative. I hope that Gov. Patterson does not get
stampeded in naming her US Senator, she would be a terrible choice.

19. And why do you love her?
Do you love her voting against universal health care?

Do you love her for being so racist that she suggested the hispanics in NY, and in her district wouldnt vote for Obama?

Why do you love her?

21. 1 issue does not a candidate make...
I am sure we can find another representative far more representative of this extrordinarily progressive district (LES & Williamsburg) who can find room for both universal health care and trans-inclusion in ENDA...one that doesnt happen to be racist.

22. I don't consider her to be racist
and her views on Health Care are right in line with our President-Elect.

She's incredibly receptive to hearing her constituency, and I'm far from being a one issue voter.

You asked me what I love about Nydia -- I told you.

every time my boyfriend and I have called or written about a stance of hers we disagree with, we havent gotten a call back, an email back, or a letter back letting us know how much she values our opinion.

She is against a single payer system and after co-sponsoring hr 676 she turned around and opposed it, that's not in line with our president elect, you cant re-write history no matter what you say or write. As a constituent I called and demanded someone on staff explain to me why she opposed it, no one could tell me, and needless to say I never received a return call.

And suggesting Obama will have a problem with hispanics (especially so now in retrospect) is indeed racist. Just because hispanics preferred HRC in the primary doesnt and obviously didnt mean he'd have one in the general.

Again, we could use a representative that serves us better.

24. It was incorrect perhaps
but not racist.

Perhaps you didn't get a call back because you and your boyfriend were rude?

I imagine it might have to do with DEMANDING and ordering around her staff, rather than being polite.

I'm curious --how long have you lived in this area?

I feel quite well represented by her.

that he cant win hispanics is racist yes.

Nor have we been rude when we've called, or written. I did demand that someone explain to me why she was against covering her constituents, what grounds she opposed it. Left an email address, mailing address, and two phone numbers. No one could answer.

I lived in the east village when I moved here in 1990. I have lived in williamsburg for the last 13 years with a brief diversion to los angeles in the middle of it.

sorry, when neither I or my boyfriend can get responses on issues we write or call about, ESPECIALLY something as important as universal health care, I dont think that's serving us well.

you remind me a LOT of someone...

Patterson may appoint himself.
Pataki and Spitzer left NYS in such a mess that Patterson might not want to be the one responsible for cleaning it up.

18. Not in NY but have NY connections
and will be closely watching this fold out. I grew up one mile south of the Clinton's current home (I could show you exactly where it is if the cops did not close off the street) so I still do pay attention to NY politics as my friends and family are there.

Next time I talk to my dad, I will see who he wants in there.

26. You say that like it's a bad thing.
NYC only has most of the state's population. Why it is deemed acceptable to consistently screw the city in order to favor upstate is beyond me. Nydia Velazquez had been in line for that Senate seat before Clinton carpetbagged he way in. She ought not be pushed aside once again for fear of being too NYC centric.
