|
Lieberman only had the leverage to retain his chairmanship because he likely won't run again in 2012 which means he won't be in Congress much longer.
I think there's a lot of slippery slope fallacy going on here when people argue that if Lieberman isn't punished then it will be impossible to retain party loyalty. Honestly I don't think that is going to happen.

their mouths.
I'm nowhere close to distressed at what I've seen as many people are. But you know what? If ordinary people don't speak out, and not just during campaign season, then we won't have a democracy. We'll just have another Bush Administration, reversed, with Democratic insiders (who I guarantee you have had all the key players on speeddial and who are not keeping their mouths shut) driving the nation off a cliff.
I prefer democracy to "shut up and be good followers".

Lieberman is backstabber and there ZERO basis to support a theory that he is 100% onboard (or 90%, or 80%). The prick wasn't even contrite. All we have is hope that he actually has some core beliefs aside from American Imperialism (which is a position that I don't subscribe to) and support for Israel (which I agree with strongly) and will support us on social issues but its hard to overlook he threatened to caucus with the Republiscum which means most of the 90% of the votes he went with Democrats on is negotiable.
Lieberman is not on our side. He's in it for Joe The Turncoat and probably has revenge on his mind for being run against in the primary. He's with us because we give him a path to power.

The guy's a egotistical jerk wasting a good space in the senate in order to leverage whatever he can do to help no one else but Joe Lieberman. He cares nothing about principles and statesmanship. He acted like a jackass during the presidential campaign and his spitefulness about Connecticut nominating Lamont and the subsequent support of Lamont by fellow senators was juvenile.
He put Obama and his supporters at risk by standing with Palin sporting a smirking grin on his face seemingly approving her rabid supporters threats and insults against Obama. He implied that Obama was a Marxist and perpetrated the rumors that he was a Muslim in order to stoke dislike of him by voters who can't tell one Hussein from another.
He has done a terrible job as head of the homeland security committee, shirking his responsibility time after time to conduct oversight against the most corrupt administration ever. In doing so he left the victims of Katrina out in the cold.
He is a whiny self-absorb Droopy Dog and I don't really care that Obama wants him to be forgiven. The very fact that he would stand with Palin at her "klan" rallies put Obama's supporters at risk and that I cannot forgive. Obama has 24/7 security by the best in the world. His supporters do not and that is something that he might have thought about when he was so quick to forgive that idiot. This is not about him. It's about the people who openly support Obama.
It's too late to pretend that Joe Lieberman will give 100% commitment to anyone other than himself. He it seriously too self-absorbed and perpetually petty to do so.
If you don't like that you will just have to figure out a way to get over it.
