He seems to be bending backwards farther than he was willing to in the VP vetting.

1. No, he seems to be doing basically what one would expect a spouse to do.
 Why this infatuation with bashing everything Bill Clinton does? If he doesn't turn over records, bash. If he does, bash. I guess this is a preview of what'll happen to Obama in sixteen years. Harvey Dent was right.

3. Hillary gave up a lot earlier in life to help Bill's career. Why shouldn't he do the same for her?

5. I'm just wondering if that's where Bill would like her to be more than
where she would like to be.

I always thought her passion was in health, women and kids and that foreign policy was something she got into because she needed it to be President. But maybe that's just me.

4. Um, Obama didn't want Hillary as his VP so vetting wasn't necessary. I don't mean that as a negative

against Obama (it's obviously up to him who he wanted as his running mate), I'm just pointing out that Hillary as VP didn't simply hinge on Bill agreeing to be vetted. I can just imagine the reaction around here if Bill had been running around saying to reporters, "I'll be vetted! I'll be vetted!" He obviously would have been accused of trying to force Obama to pick her as his VP.

6. The rumors actually sound the same...
don't vet her unless you pick her.

But the pushback from Bill sounded stronger back then.

7. I honestly don't remember Bill talking openly about the vetting process re: the VP position. I heard
the rumor that Hillary told Obama that she wasn't interested in being vetted unless he was seriously considering her for VP, however.

10. Again, Hillary as VP wasn't a possibility. Obama didn't want her as his VP (with respect).

11. Actually I bet she was in his top 3, just like she is in his top
3 for SOS.

SOS is a big enough job that he might as well have picked her for either.

13. No, she wasn't. According to the Newsweek account, Obama considered it but advisers discouraged it.

14. Same exact reasons apply as SOS.
I see no difference in the downsides.

This idiot blogging is why I have not contributed any more money to this place ... in honor of Skinner (?) and his entreaties. Not to mention, I don't have any money any more.

12. Stop Beating Up On The Clintons
Give us long-time Dem voters a break. My 1st vote for Pres was in 1972 ... no, it wasn't the French/Indian War. I voted for McGovern ... my first vote for President and I lived in Pittsburgh, PA.

17. I've wondered why she would want the job.
I cannot recall any cases when a sitting U.S. Senator gave up that position for S.O.S. I would think this job could be filled by any number of former politicians who are out of a job. Sam Nunn comes to mind. Georgia slid back in time after the Reagan greed years kicked in and gentleman Sam knew another candidacy would be difficult. On the other hand, if I'm a Senator from N.Y., that's a much more influential seat of power than sacrificing yourself for SOS. I think it's a mistake for both Obama and Clinton. Hillary has a neocon streak in her that I hoped would not filter into the new government.

19. Do you really think Bill Clinton is NOT part of the deal? He will be acting like SOS.

Plus, it will be a great Whitehouse springboard for Hillary in 2012 or 2016 (though I'm sure Bill would LOVE to beat Obama in 2012, it's not like he's getting any younger and I don't think Obama is "one of his favorite people."
