I have Question. If Hillary gets SOS and Obama later fires her, does she get to go back to the |
|
Senate? Or would she be out in the cold?
Just a question. No need to flame me.

19. Which would be great motivation for her to do a good job as SoS. |
|
Some people here are concerned about her drama and loyalty. But the Doom of Damocles will be hanging over her head at all times. Obama can fire her whenever he wants without any kind of notice.
Senators only face that doom every 6 years.

If she accepts and is confirmed then she will have to resign from the Senate.

7. Nope--unless her replacement resigns. |
|
And that may be the reason why she's hesitating--once you go in, you can't go back. So she'd have to mind her Ps and Qs in the White House.

8. He will not be able to fire her. Get it? She's the wife of a former President, and they pretty |
|
they pretty much own the establishment of the Party.
He cannot fire her, once he hires her. Also, her 18 million devotees will be displeased and not vote for him.
He can, of course, promote her, to get her out of the SOS job. Or move her to another high level cabinet position. But I don't think there IS another equally high level position...except maybe Vice President.

10. I'm sorry I disagree. But of course he could fire her! What the hell |
|
are you smoking?
That's the whole point of being in the cabinet. That's the one thing I'm sure of, but I wasn't sure about what would happen in terms of her senate position.
It appears to me that the plot has thickened considerably.

16. He won't have to fire her |
|
Every cabinet and senior level administration position (including deputy secretaries) submit a signed and undated resignation letter when they are appointed.
They serve "at the President's pleasure" and when the Prez decides it's time for them to go, he dates the resignation letter and "accepts their resignation with deep regret".
There is no recourse to a previous position if it's elective. Sometimes they can be reinstated in a previous appointed position; ambassador, bureau head etc.

11. Nobody Is Irremovable |
|
Even Supreme Court Justices can be removed--difficult, but not impossible.
That's why I expect Hillary will end up on the Court if she does a good job in the State Dept.

21. I am one of Hillary's "18 million devotees" that you speak of |
|
and you are completely wrong.
I voted for Obama and I'm ecstatic and proud and confidant that he is now our President.
If he chooses Hillary as SoS, I'd be happy about it. And if for some reason, he felt the need to let her go, I would assume he had good reason.
Some of you who don't like the Clintons project on to us your wa-wa-wa!!!!! ways of thinking. We are not sore losers or sycophants.
And Obama can fire the SoS at any time....all Secretaries, as written in law, serve at the pleasure of the President.
And if Hillary "owns" the party establishment, how in the hell did Obama get elected President.....grow up!

18. Don't know why you are so snarky. Are you mad about something? |
|
Do you not like the possibility that it could be a trap?
Not sure what your complaint is. I think it's definitely something Clinton has to think about. If you don't, then fine.

13. not flaming, but I don't see why he would fire her |
|
I consider her a strong and capable person, even though I didn't prefer her for CiC, I see nothing about her that would make me think she'd have to be fired at any point.
is there something that makes you think that?

17. No, I am simply seeing what his options are. There seems to be |
|
a lot of speculation as to who's forcing who, who's in control, etc. and whether there's some kind of fight for control going on between the two camps.
If that's the case, then it seems interesting to me that if there really is some kind of forcing of the hand going on that this offer might be a trap.
I'm quite sure that Clinton has to consider the possibility.

20. This is a valid question as few SoS last more than one term. It is a grueling job. |
|
(they are rarely fired, but they resign, whether because they do not want to stay or because the president asks).
Of course, we know the answer. She does not get her Senate job automatically.
