2. Are you listening. I wish more DUers were.
This is a fascinating discussion. And oh, I think it's fairly clear that Obama is a leader.

14. It is indeed fascinating.
I was not listening to c-span at the time, but I always listen to Doris as we attended the same high school.

It does appear that he is a leader. Especially interesting is the story of his leadership of Harvard Law Review, which suggests he may have what it takes at least to begin to approach our very difficult problems.

3. She's talented. Pretty good timing for that book.
Lucky? Or did she have her suspicions?

This is her definitive area of expertise.

10. She devises great framework for her books, but her research is often lousy...
She missed some key sources in "No Ordinary Time" that would have changed the texture of the book.

She farms out nearly all the research.

11. the book came out in 2005 and she spent ten years prior to that doing research
so probably more luck. It certainly has revived sales of a three year old book.

8. and this is a fantastic segment.
I agree about Doris. I knew her many years ago, when I worked for her now husband, Dick Goodwin. She was dating him seriously at the time, but they weren't yet living together.

12. Damn I'm so sick of this book!
Its like a good song that gets played to death on the radio until you hate it and for years can't listen to it because its so over played.

I've been monitoring something else for work:( Extremely low-brow, mouth breathing, knuckle dragging, trash talking, tabloid crap... ugh. I swear I've lost 50 IQ points on this project today.

Doris Goodwin would have been a breath of fresh air... maybe I can find it later in a podcast or something.

Doris Kearns Goodwin, Liar

First she plagiarized. Then she claimed it wasn't plagiarism.

Did Doris Kearns Goodwin commit plagiarism? "Absolutely not," she tells Boston Globe reporter Thomas C. Palmer Jr. "There were extensive footnotes.'' Chatterbox has had it with brand-name historians who pretend that the rules allow you to steal someone else's sentences (for examples of Goodwin's theft, click here) provided that you supply a footnote. This is not a gray area. Here is how Harvard University, where Goodwin received her Ph.D. and was previously a professor of government, addresses the matter in a handbook for a freshman composition course that all undergraduates are required to take:
