I have never met Hillary Clinton
Edited on Fri Nov-21-08 11:58 AM by Kurt_and_Hunter
Hillary at SOS would have never crossed my mind. Like, not ever. (I think of her a supreme domestic policy wonk, but have never thought of her as a big foreign affairs expert.)

But I don't know her. It is possible that she is a lot more impressive than I think she is. (I supported her, but I didn't think she was Jesus II or anything.)

Since Obama debated her like thirty times, managed a competing organization for a year, had trouble putting her down even after she was dead and then worked and campaigned with her, and since his VP is a long-term friend of hers... (Biden must have been a HRC at SOS booster. Surely Obama would have respected a Biden veto of her.)

It is possible that she's just that impressive.

Obama may have no Machiavellian theory of the thing. He may have decided months ago that she was simply the right person for the job.

Surely he knew when he didn't pick her as VP that he wanted her at State. He doesn't seem like the stumbling from decision to decision type. It's possible that he decided he wanted Biden and Clinton as VP and Sec State in some combination and, since Hillary is a pain in the ass, opted to put her in the job where she could be fired. (The VP is an independent constituional office. Biden could start running Sarah Palin's 2012 campaign tomorrow and there wouldn't be a thing Obama could do about it.)

1. I think Obama knows what he is doing
I have met Hillary but not long enough to form an opinion other than what we all hear see and read about her.

I think Hillary will do a great job as SOS.

3. It's people like you that ended up working with her and discovered she's good to work with....
that made me realize I fell for a lot of the press shit about her.

She has a very high 'plays well with others' quotient.

She and Obama are the two smartest and quickest candidates we've had since LBJ with the exception of Bubba. I wish either of them had run in '00 or '04. They would not have lost.

She'll be okay. Obama will be okay. Everything is going to be a lot better.

4. I've met her. She wasn't my first choice for the nomination, but she is outstandingly impressive.

Politics aside, and even without Bill, she was destined for greatness.

(and by met her, I mean I shook her hand in a reception line, said hello, and had a few seconds of small talk)

but a number of my students worked at various levels of her campaign and to a person, they are in awe of the woman.

8. I've never met her personally, but I know that she has a reputation for being intelligent,
tenacious and hardworking. I'm sure that if Obama appoints her a SOS, it's because he feels she is the best person for the job.
