Thats what I'm really not excited about. THe media has annoyed me greatly with regards to this whole Hillary as SOS thing, and I'm just not looking forward to that with Hillary being nominated. I know they will constantly continue saying that Obama is Clinton Round 2, even though he is a different person with a different agenda in mind, and there is no Bill.

I thought Bill Richardson would have been the best possible SOS, but that doesnt mean I dont think Hillary will do a good job. I just cant wait till she is confirmed, and we can get on with more important things.

1. The 24 hours new networks suck. There is too much time to fill up
during the day so most of it is nonsense. I know this, I stay home with my 3 and 4 year olds and what was on at 9:00 is the same at 3:00.

4. I'm experienced enough to know that NBC can get it wrong.

12. I'm perplexed as to why the transition team wouldn't just announce it. That seems out of character
Why leak it when your whole style up to that time was no leaks and straight shooting? Especially for something like this?

OK, maybe the whole team has fallen apart and the wheels are coming off and folks are suddenly leaking. But I doubt it.

so why doesn't it square?

13. That's what I want to know.
I'll believe it when an announcement is made. The degree of media speculation and anonymous sources is mind boggling.

14. A couple of reasons, maybe
First, I'm not going to write this choice in ink until it's announced, so I do have some doubts, and you just summed them up. This just isn't what we've seen from Obama so far.

But, it is similar to the VP choice. The media kept saying Biden, Obama kept saying no one knew his choice, but in the end the media got it right. So that makes me think two things. One, maybe Obama just knows that a choice like this wouldn't be able to be kept quiet, so he just let it leak, or maybe even authorized its leak.

Or two, maybe Obama decided to use this as cover for his other choice. That's been suggested here before. After watching the Biden show, he knew that the media would turn a Clinton pick into a circus, so he lit the flaming hoops and starting blowing the whistle, and while the media was watching the center ring he stepped over to the side and got a lot of work done without much interference. Imagine if he'd have announced Clinton, then just as the complaints are dying off he picks Holder, and just as the complaints there are dying off (admittedly, there wouldn't be many, but if that was the only story, those who were complaining would be amplified), Daschle, than Napolitano, then Jones, etc. Each pick would be analyzed, each pick would be criticized by adversaries on both sides, and the whole thing would be a litany of battles between supporters and opponents, and the media would report how much he was struggling to please everyone.

This way, after each pick he just points back to the center ring, sets off an explosion, blows a whistle, and everyone is watching the main show and forgetting about the stuff on the sidelines.

So maybe that's what he was doing.

Or maybe the leaks were accidental, or maybe they are complete misdirection and he's about to announce Holbrooke or Richardson. Wouldn't be the first time the media was wrong. Or even misled. I'm just amused by all the people who are certain on either side. We don't know what Obama's up to, and with David Axelrod as his advisor, there's just no telling.

6. I agree, the media will be on her like.....well, you know.
I plan to not watch shit, as I have been avoiding it all for a while now. I still watch Tweety when I can, but have even stopped watching Keith....not sure why....

7. I will enjoy seeing the haters agonize over it
Over at the FR and here. Personally, whomever Obama chooses is fine with me. If he picks Hillary, I get the added bonus of watching some perpetually obnoxious/negative people implode under the weight of their own bigotry!

8. I'm a big Hillary backer, and even I've got some hesitations about the appointment.
But as you say, she'll be good, and the media would find something to create drama about. That's their job--they have replaced soap operas for creating daytime sex and intrigue.

However, take in the whole picture. What you say about the media claiming this is "Clinton II" has some weight, no doubt. But, if he hadn't chosen Clinton for something, the media would go crazy comparing him to Clinton and claiming some rift existed. He couldn't win either way, and the comparisons are unavoidable. Clinton was the last Democratic president, he took over during an economic crisis after an incompetent administration (2, even), and he played that whole "bipartisan" card, too, even appointing Republicans to his cabinet while finding far left candidates for other positions. For Obama to include Clinton in his administration, he subordinates the Clintons to his administration, and removes a lot of the "rift" stories. They'll still happen--heck, they might even be true sometimes--but unless Clinton resigns, Obama will be seen as the boss.

So I think he's doing a smart thing, if he does it. That's still a sentence waiting for the final period, though. Right now it's an elipses.

10. Obama is dumping the 'Yes man' culture
He knows that she is not afraid to speak her mind and I believe that he isn't afraid to listen before making a decision.

As far as the pundits being obsessed with her, who cares? They will eventually get over it.
