This will surprise some of you
I was not a Hillary supporter during the primaries. Nope... I wasn't. I tried not to be offensive about my feelings toward her due to her corporate ties. I know and you know that some of the whoppers she told were embarrassing. I have been against the invasion of Iraq from day 1 and so I do not like her hawkish stance on the occupation of Iraq. Yes, I know she has changed her view on being in Iraq but I also know it is too little too late. I thought her campaign was a train wreck and no matter how I looked at it I saw race as a central theme which was too bad because I know she and Bill are not racists. I am not her biggest fan, okay.

BUT ---- I believe Hillary will surprise the nay sayers and be an asset as Secretary of State. I do not think she will oppose Obama on central issues and she will take her marching orders from her boss. Hillary is brilliantly intelligent and a very hard worker.

I would like to give the woman a chance and I for one wish her well.

Good Luck and Best Wishes Senator Clinton.

12. Oh God. It kills me. He became Senator when I was 12 years old.
People liked him for a long time. He was even picked as Gore's VP and that made us proud and then he completely lost it over the Iraq war and pissed off a lot of us Dems. I voted for Lamont obviously. At least we have Dodd and we have a great bunch of Reps like Joe Courteny and Chris Murphy. We kicked out Chris Shays too, a Rethug. Joe's time is almost up in CT and I think he knows it. We went so blue this year its not even funny, the state govt. is bluer then ever.

5. This is about where I stand. I am not all that enthused about her as SoS, but..
I also preferred Obama because I liked his thinking and decision process, to the extent that I could read it. I can see the administrative logic behind choosing her (if he does so) and I can also see the political logic; he faces so many obstacles on entering office (economic and so on) that many policies may not bear fruit within his first term, no matter how good they are. If Hillary is his SoS, he won't have to worry about a primary challenge from that direction in a few years.

6. I know that
a far left liberal, like me, will never be elected as president. It will not happen. People who think that a Dennis Kucinich will ever be elected are deluding themselves. I believe that Obama is making strategic decisions which will be essential to get things done.

No way is the screaming on DU going to make me unhappy about Obama being elected. :D

7. But I don't think it's Dennis K's politics---it's that he's funny looking. I think that's hard to
overcome. No way would Lincoln (a really unattractive gangly dude with a high voice) be elected today. Sad, but true. Of course if Kucinich could have his wife on his arm in every pic....maybe he's have a chance.

8. No...
you could take Obama and put Kucinich political philosophy inside him and he would not be elected president.

I think you must not have seen LBJ, Nixon, FDR or Lincoln. It is not about the "looks" at least not for the majority of people - if looks dictated who our president was then it would be this guy:

17. He acts weird too
I've met him, in 2004. He's nice, but he's a bit of a weirdo. And this was in San Francisco, where we're used to and embrace weird people. I remember he started his speech, then said 'I've got something very important to show you' - turns around 360 degrees very slowly and then comes back tot he microphone and says 'see? No strongs.'. The whole audience was like 'WTF, what's he smoking.'

24. No, as I have said before....
it's that he doesn't know how to be diplomatic. He's a loose canon. It's not what he says, it's how he says it. He's right up there with Mike Gravel in my book.(Gravel #1, Kooch #2.) I'd never vote for him. Never.

But I think he has 'little man syndrome' as well. (Napoleon complex)

9. I don't care about Hillary
"I do not think she will oppose Obama on central issues and she will take her marching orders from her boss"
I think this the best thing you wrote. She can't oppose Obama on central issues, if she does she'd have to resign.

10. I agree
I wish her the best and hope we can all leave the drama behind. I am having Clinton fatigue but as many things in life- I will get over it, hope for the best and cheer on our new SOS. PE Obama is a bigger person than I am.
That's a lovely photo of her.

14. Everything in life is a two edge sword. I initially was horrified when I heard that Obama was going
to choose Hillary for SOS. But then I started thinking.

She campaigned for him diligently during the election without drama or incident. If she could do this, why could she not serve under him.

And on another note, Hillary and Obama's styles are very different. Hillary likes to stir the pot (fighter); whereas, Obama is more laid back. Sometimes people can actually compliment one another with their different styles.

These folks are grown ups. I think it will work out fine.

I was an Edwards supporter during the primaries until he withdrew. Barack was always my second choice. I wish Sen Clinton well. I do think she'll have a positive impact in her role and do a fine job as SoS.

22. She has a lot of potential!

I'm very excited about this possibility, more so than probably any other cabinet post.

Hillary can restore the much needed alliance in Western Europe quickly and repair relations with Latin America and Asia as well. She's already well known and greatly respected abroad. And I think it's probably on a more personal level than most career diplomats (Holbrooke) or other senators (Kerry, Richardson, Hagel, Lugar, etc) too.

And while I have confidence she'll be a team player, I don't think it's completely about marching orders either. Obama expects OPEN and honest debate and dissent (of course not publicly) at times and I think he intends to then forge a consensus on major issues. Also, I believe Obama may be interested in getting advice from Bill, without formally appointing him. This is one way of going about it.

Bill knows that if he interferes too much, he'll destroy Hillary's career and make pariahs out of them both in Democratic circles. That benefits no one.

I wish her all the best (whether it's in this role or if for some reason she changes her mind and decides not to take the role).
