Reading this place the last week or so.
It appears DU is either going to have to adopt some new rules in a Dem Administration, or quickly become a mirror of Free republic.

The primaries were pretty rough but this place has become a cesspool the last week or so. At least during the primaries we were fighting over which Dem to support. Lately it seems the fight is over how best to tear down any and all Dem's. If the trend continues it will be time to walk away from this place.

I've been coming here for at least 6 years and i have never been so disgusted by what I am reading here the last few weeks. I guess the old saying Dem's are great at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory are true.

3. Same here
Only thing bringing me down these days are the posts here. I came here for 6 years cause this place helped keep me sane in a sea of madness now its starting to look like the sea of madness is here and the world outside has become the place to go for sanity.

I suppose that's a good thing

5. I totally know why
Some posters have to have the fighting and the drama. It's the same group that did it during the Primaries. People are just noticing it now because there's no competition between Obama and Clinton.

I don't get it either.

I supported Hillary as President. I voted for Obama, and -- even though I have no doubts about some things -- I'm willing to give him a chance. I don't get why some of his most ardent Primary supporters don't want to extend him the same respect.

8. Oh I dont know
Lord knows I love a good fight. I got nothing though when it comes to Obama. The guy isn't even in office yet. If he starts going all neocon once he is actually in office then we can talk but I just don't see it happening and i am amazed that so many cant even wait to see what happens before laying into him like he spit on their children or something.

11. I didnt mean to imply you meant me.
Sorry if it came off that way. I just don't think this latest wave of idiocy has that much to do with people who like a good argument.

I think it has more to do with people who want their own personal agenda catered to or else!

16. I remember that book!
As I recall, the illustrations reminded me of Peter Max's work but with rougher edges.

Yes. That book should be required reading.

I didn't know you have a son!

24. That was one of my favorites
I also loved The Postman series with all the little letters in envelopes. And a lot of the classics like Mistress Masham's Repose.

My son is 22. He's a pip. Quirky guy, fantastic skier, avid reader and great cook.

25. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree:)
Two out of my three are still avid readers, with the third spending nearly all of his free time with a guitar in his hand. The guitarist had a thing for Pig William. I'm sure I had it memorized at some point. Reading to kids is time well spent.

10. I only started lurking during the primaries
so I'm relatively new, but I've been really depressed by the post-election postings - which started about two days after the victory. I've considered not coming back.

14. Well welcome to DU!
I am sorry that you only found this place during the primaries. It has been and I am sure will continue to be one of the best places on the net to get information on what is happening in politics at any given moment.

I am not sure exactly what is going on here at the moment. If it is old primary wounds resurfacing or freeper trolls trying to stir up garbage or what. I have never seen it this negative towards dems in general here though and it is distressing.

There are some amazing people that post here though with some incredible inside baseball stuff. Lately you have to trudge through a lot of garbage to find it but I still see many of My favorites Handles posting daily so there's still quality here. Hopefully the latest madness will die down soon. I hope you stick around it really is a great place most of the time.

15. I hope things return to normal soon. Before the primaries you could get a really
good discussion of issues and explore many points of view without being branded a troll. There seems to be a lack of civility around here these days.

13. We aren't happy unless we're miserable.
We had one brief, shining moment when Obama became President-elect, and the minute he stepped down from the podium and speculation began about the Cabinet, this place became a bloodbath again.

Edited on Fri Nov-21-08 03:59 PM by sfexpat2000
to channel all that energy.

We might remember that criticism isn't always an attack. Sometimes, it's just a question or a thought and actual discussion is helpful.

It's also good to remember we can't hurt the REAL Obama with our posts because we have no Super Powers. We can't now make Obama lose. He already won. He's in.

What all this reminds me of most is the kind of infighting that happens when someone is having a wedding. It can be a little stupid and petty and frustrating but, it really isn't meant to harm anyone. There's a lot happening, people are a little uptight and they snap at each other for no reason.

We'll be okay.

23. I agree.
I don't post all that much, but just reading the attacks on our yet to be sworn in President Obama makes me feel sad, disappointed, confused, and upset. It's pointless, anti-productive, selfish, shortsighted, stupid, and often mean spirited. There wasn't even much of a post election afterglow, or honeymoon, as the attacks started right after the election.

27. .
There is a difference between discussing policy, and some of the balls out attacking on our President elect that have been posted. Especially on the basis of rumors before he even starts actually governing.

Just sayin'.
