Stocks Rise After Obama Treasury Pick
Stocks Rise After Obama Treasury Pick

CNBC.com | 21 Nov 2008 | 03:11 PM ET

Stocks woke up Friday after President-Elect Barack Obama announced two key cabinet posts.

New York Federal Reserve President Timothy Geithner was named Treasury Secretary and Bill Richardson as Commerce Secretary. Obama's former Democratic primary rival, Hillary Clinton, is expected to be names Secretary of State after Thanksgiving.

The Dow rallied more than 100 points. The S&P and Nasdaq also advanced.

Stocks shot out of the gate Friday then chilled out as traders recovered from a crushing two-day selloff that shaved 872 points off the Dow.

3. Wow, and it happened in 15 min
It would be nice to have one Friday when the market shoots up instead of down the way it often does.

4. I've been watching my one stock tank but it went up 40 cents just now
I hope this is good - we need this change. I need my stocks to be worth something again.

But if I had money to spend I'd buy some stocks now. I could rally back and I could make a killing

5. Of course, if your horizon is far - from retiring
this is a good time to buy.

I don't dare now. As a matter of fact, last month changed new contribution to 401K to 80% bonds and money market funds.

6. Dow soars 500
So much for the "Obama down effect on the market" that the right wingers were saying..
