61. He's going to be a "maverick" president.
Poor guy. It's bad enough having to give up his Blackberry. And having claudestine meetings just to get a f***ing haircut. But if you look at all the incredible pictures of this guy, he LOVES being out and about among people, taking solitary walks, doing "regular guy" things.

This presidential sh*t is going to drive him up a tree.

Now, I seem to remember that Clinton managed to go jogging. I have this hunch that every once in a blue moon, Obama will "sneak off". Maybe not with NO secret service, but probably a very small number.

I hope none of the sickos find out.

21. These kinds of threads are interesting....
...mainly for the disconnect I see between how we, as DUers, regard Obama's image, and our perception of him as a president-elect. On the one hand, we are all in semi-charmed awe at the man's undeniable personal charisma, the narrative he inhabits, and the genuine benevolence and warmth we see exhibited in these pictures that flows multidirectionally between Obama and his admirers. On the other hand, the internal struggle in all of us liberals is played out in twice as many text-heavy threads as we all come to grips with the fact that he's not performing EXACTLY as we wish him to, that his cabinet appointments are distressingly middle-of-the-road, and that none of us are getting that Xmas pony that we wished and weeped and begged for.

I dunno - does anyone else grind their teeth when they feel the dissonance?

65. No, I kind of enjoy the dissonance.
Liberals have negative capability. We can hold seemingly opposing ideas in our heads at the same time and not short out our little brains like conservatives do.

Obama is going to do things that piss us off, inevitably, and it's our job as citizens to say so. But threads like this are about celebration - 8 long years is a LONG time to have a "president" we can't stand the sight of. For me, this thread is about the way he makes us happy, and we LIKE him, and that feels kind of miraculous after what we've been through. We deserve a little happiness. It most certainly can and does coexist with critical thinking.

37. No corned beef here.If you only knew
The majority of corned beef comes from Argentina and the cattle are water starved to make corned beef. I used to like it,but I just can't go there anymore because of it.

51. Don't believe everything you hear.
Edited on Fri Nov-21-08 07:48 PM by Liberal Progressive
The majority of corned beef does not come from Argentina. It's third behind Brazil and Australia.

The cattle have not been water-starved to make corned beef. That's not how you make corned beef at all. You turn a brisket (and only a brisket- only one part of the cattle is used for corned beef) into corned beef by curing it in brine. Dehydrating a cow has no effect whatsoever on "corning" and would likely ruin every part of the cow, including the high-value steaks. It also reduces the profit per animal, because without enough water, growth is stunted. No rancher is that stupid.

Water starved cattle = smaller size and bad meat = less beef, all of it low quality = less money.

Where do you hear this crap? Feel free to eat corned beef to your heart's content, because someone has screwed with your head. Avoid Beef because you're a vegetarian or whatever...Don't avoid it because some extremist concocted a horror story that doesn't even make sense.

72. GOOD ! He needs to do LOTS of this kind of "down with the folks" stuff. Give the President back to
the people. The You Tubes are a great idea. He also needs to get out there and talk to average, everyday folks as much as possible (and his cabinet people too) and re-unite the people with their president. God, after 8 long years of a secret-society presidency designed to screw us at every turn, it will be great to have a real "uniter" there in the White House. But he needs to do that. AND, he needs to do this in "RED" states especially. These are Americans too, there are Democrats there too, and plenty of Indys, and even some R's who will listen to a sincere and very smart and caring guy like Obama. If he stays close with the grassroots across the country, they'll stay loyal to him, help him succeed, and get him re-elected in '08 because it's going to very hard to clean up the messes of the Bush administration in just four years.

76. One thing I'll have to get used to....
Seeing a photogenic, charismatic and handsome American President again. Every time that a picture has been taken of the Chimp-in-Chief over the past eight years, he's looked like a stunned mullet or a deer caught in the headlights.

78. So true. And as I looked at these I tried to imagine folks wanting to hug the Chimp. Ew-w-w-w--w-!

77. I want to point out that he's not greying (yet)
that's just his scalp showing through a short hair cut.

Great pics! :hi:

79. This president actually will "make the pie higher"
But judging by this pic, the pie isn't the only thing getting higher...

:D

81. Jackeens, where do you get such awesome candid shots of PE Obama? I bookmark your threads and copy
the pix to my computer AND I send the link to your threads to other colleagues in Chapel Hill who are THRILLED to see the pix you post! Absolutely awesome! Thank you SO much for sharing these. You have to be on his staff--have to. I know when Howard Dean stopped in Greensboro, NC, there was a young woman who deboarded his bus who mingled with the crowd and took pix as anyone else in the crowd. I had a better viewpoint, so I asked her to hand me her camera, and I snapped some pix for her. That was the first time that I noticed that someone in his entourage mingled in the crowd, snapping pix.
