Oopsie Doopsie... 'Coleman No Longer Urges Franken "Step Back"'
<snip>

MONTICELLO, Minn. (AP) - Sen. Norm Coleman says that if he knew the morning after the election that his lead over Al Franken was going to shrink significantly, he probably wouldn't have urged Franken to concede defeat.

During a visit Friday to an Xcel Energy facility in Monticello, Coleman told reporters that his lead at the time was substantially larger than now and that he hadn't slept in 36 hours.

Coleman's lead eventually dwindled to 215 votes before the recount was launched. "I don't think I'd have made the same statement," Coleman says.

At the time, Coleman said that if he were in Franken's shoes he would "step back" and concede the race.

According to a report in the Star Tribune, Coleman would not say directly if he would concede if the state canvassing board certifies Franken as the winner after the recount.

4. What is telling is that he will
again claim victory when the recount is finished, but before the disputed votes are counted and then try again to get Franken to concede. That is why they are challenging so many of Franken's votes.
