Just curious, should the "White House" be renamed, if so, what
are your suggestions? Mine is "State House"!

Let's discuss!

1. Why should it be renamed.
The name as been the same for years!

It's the occupants of such house that make a difference
not the name of the residence.

But you knew that, right?

23. Actually, the original moniker was "The President's House"...
I believe.

It was originally a tan natural sandstone - until after the British burned it during the War of 1812.

When they were renovating it and stabilizing it during Carter's term in preparation for the Bicentenial, they successfully removed all the many layers of white paint. Serious discussion were held as to whether to keep it it's natural exposed sandstone color as it was for the firs decades since it was built, but it was decided to re-paint it white because of it's much more prominent fame as the "White House", but more so because they felt even a treated/sealed sandstone would be subject to deterioration in the present day caustic atmosphere of modern DC.

As a tribute to the original structure, they left some exposed areas of unpainted sandstone on the back of the columns in the front porticoe. Is some areas, you can still see the scorch marks from the fire.

7. The Whisper House? After the paint?
I remember seeing on some documentary someone who's sole job was to paint the White House saying, "People think it's white, but it's really 'whisper' .... that's the name of the paint color."

"The Whisper House"?

Ok .... maybe not.

28. It's ok...
I'm just kind of touchy about shit 'changing' today...

Went out to look for some hunter green Xmas ribbon today, and 5 stores later, NO HUNTER GREEN Xmas ribbon. WTF???? I use it in my business, and not even my vendors have it this year. There are nothing but off greens, lime green, sage green, olive green, etc, but no traditional hunter, or kelly green. So at the last store, I mentioned to the cashier, that I couldn't find it anywhere, so she says; I don't know what was wrong with the traditional Xmas colors, or why they had to change them. It's just a sign of the times if you ask me. People bored with the traditional, which is fine, but to completely do away with the traditional Xmas greens, really pisses me off. I mean, red is still red...for now anyways.

I saw peach poinsettias, blue poinsettias, and almost every color in the rainbow.

Just another peeve of mine. People can not just let things be. Or be happy with the norm. :eyes: And yeah, it's a big deal in my business, and I need hundreds and hundreds of yards of it. :(

Memphis/Silver Walls, it's an old Egyptian term, the old capitol of Egypt, or KMT, but that is komety for another time.

There have been some unhappy conservative types asking if Obama won, can it still be called the white house.

I just know that by history, it wasn't white until after the British burned it down, and the paint covered the burn marks.
