Optimistic theory about the possible HRC choice: It's "Only Nixon Could Go To China"
(and no, before anybody freaks, I'm not actually saying that HRC is this year's Nixon, ok?)

Perhaps the idea is that only a known hawk could get away with bringing in a less-confrontation, less-militaristic foreign policy.

Perhaps also only someone who ran as "more pro-Israel than though" could actually have the street cred to bring in a balanced I/P approach.

It's something to hope for, I guess.

1. I was really young when Nixon went to China.
What was it? '73? It was a HUGE thing, and even at my young age, I recognized the significance of it. Nixon actually did that one thing right.

2. It was the summer of '72(I was 11, but I was really precocious and aware of things then)
Ol' Milhouse timed it to put him over the top in his reelection campaign.

3. She will be tough on women's rights too
And Hillary is the first one to publicly suggest that Palestine have its own state, which she took major major grief over. I can see a few benefits of choosing her for SoS and I am willing to hold off on too many criticisms. Obama will be the President after all.

4. Yes, this is my hope
about the whole crew he is putting together. Maybe he plans to launch some major progressive initiatives, and worries that some from his own Party would be prone to criticize or undercut him from the right. By bringing them into the fold and tasking them with working on his agenda he could be neutralizing them as potential enemies.

I think this is a long shot theory, and would of course require SOME liberals in the halls of power. Most likely what we see is what we get. But who really knows?
