Prepare to be Palin'd
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Oprah wants her, and so do Letterman and Leno. Fresh from her political defeat, Sarah Palin is juggling offers to write books, appear in films and sit on dozens of interview couches at a rate that would be astonishing for most Hollywood stars, let alone a first-term governor. Sarah Palin continues to attract huge media interest despite her failed bid to become vice president. The failed Republican vice presidential candidate crunched state budget numbers this week in her 17th-floor office as tumbling oil prices hit Alaska's revenues. Meanwhile, her staff fielded television requests seeking the 44-year-old Palin for late-night banter and Sunday morning Washington policy. Agents, including those from the William Morris Agency, have come knocking. There's even been an offer to host a TV show.

"Tomorrow, Governor Palin could do an interview with any news media on the planet," said her spokesman, Bill McAllister. "Tomorrow, she could probably sign any one of a dozen book deals. She could start talking to people about a documentary or a movie on her life. That's the level we are at here." "Barbara Walters called me. George Stephanopoulos called me," McAllister said. "I've had multiple conversations with producers for Oprah, Letterman, Leno and 'The Daily Show."'

11. It's their fault (GOP) that their party attracts dimwits who are
obsessed with shiny things. This year's Republican primary was a joke. They didn't have one viable candidate imo. Fred Thompson! Mike Huckabee! This was probably the weakest slate of candidates in history.

If Sarah Palin is the best they can do, they won't take the Presidency for decades.

35. During the Greta interview Greta asked Piper about the campaign.
Piper told her she missed a lot of schooling and had a lot to make up because of her absence caused by traveling with the campaign. Piper said she missed her friends and was really behind.

That little tidbit was missed by the Sista Sarah soldiers. During the campaign it was alleged by some that the kids were home schooled. Obviously they were not since Piper had to be pulled from school and missed her friends and so much school work.

And don't even get me started on Trig. A most crucial period of his life was overshadowed by the campaign. Early-intervention is crucial to their physical, emotional and intellectual development. I grew up accross the street from a girl with DS, her parent's loved her but I always thought that the love was more in line with the love given to a pet than the love given their other children. Upon their death she was put in a home to exist until her death. She had so much potential and deserved better.

36. Interesting insight on that interview. Sarah Palin appears to think
quite a bit of herself. Her husband doesn't seem to have much to say and doesn't come across as a communicative adult, nevermind a loving dad.

I'm only going on gut instinct here -- I have no temporal evidence.

But I do feel badly for political kids if their lives are yanked around by their parents' ambitions, and it sure does feel that way with the Palins.

38. I pray that she does profit from being on the ticket so that the kids
will benefit. I also hope that she recognizes that if she does not provide for Trig and if she does not get involved in the special needs organizations those failures will haunt her future political dreams. If she comes to that realization maybe something beneficial will come of her 15 minutes. The special needs advocates can use the support and a light shined on their efforts. Trig deserves more than what they appear to have provided so he would benefit - maybe they would finally learn that the political footprint they can make is in that environment and their cause would become real and not just a power grab.

About the interview, I say she should give as many as possible so that we have a record, so that we have her on video to be played back should she find a door she thinks she can plow through to the top.

40. Agree -- the more she is on record with all of
her vacuous nonsense, the less likely it will be she ever gets close to national power.

Also I think Huckabee and Romney are in this for blood at this point and realize that their last best chance is 2012. I think they will be slicing each other up with very sharp tools but will agree on one point at least -- that neither of them can tolerate Sarah Palin getting near the nomination.

I think her next four years are likely to be rough ones inside her own party, her own family, and in the media.

That call from "Sarkozy" was unbelievable. I think most high school kids could have sensed it was a fake.

42. That prank was telling indeed.
Unless she and McCain had some off colored conversations (ick) and/or GWB had called her during the campaign, she should have known that compliments about her physical appearance and the talk about the PM's wife, the sexual comments were so not the way world leaders carry on in a "first" conversation.

I agree about Romney and Hucklebee, but don't forget who is the republican senator in Alaska. The daughter of the man she smeared to get where she is has an interest in seeing her fall. Those abuses that she has committed while claiming to be a reformer will not be overlooked and will result in the hunt for more. What sweet justice would it be for the daughter to be able to watch her father's judas be charged with the same crimes he has been convicted of. The house that Palin built may well be her bridge to political nowhere. ;)

some thing, but my impression of the Palins is unchanged from the onset of our exchange here today.

Todd Palin acts like a jerk. His public demeanor is that of an adult male long disciplined in showing no emotion.

Note also that his physical movements are distinctly unfluid.

Note also that his business affiliations are not, shall we say, consistent with the public interest.

Note again that he rarely smiles and seldom if ever embraces his children.

What exactly about Todd Palin do you admire?

I think one of the worse things that can happen to any family is have judgments cast upon the parents as to whether they are "loving dads" (or moms) or not--. Its unethical to say the least.

Edited on Sun Nov-23-08 03:40 PM by Old Crusoe
step into the public spotlight, their public personages become fodder for public comment.

One might read on DU of praise for the interaction between John and Jackie Kennedy and their children, or of Nixon and his daughters, or of Joe Biden and his sons after the tragedy that brought them so close together.

One might also expect extensive comment on the Palins' public careers versus their role as parents in the previously-private life of their family. There is an older unmarried daughter who is pregnant and there is the Down Syndrome child as well. The younger daughter appears in a lot of the footage as the only person actually holding and taking care of the baby. Governor Mom is flirting with the camera, winking her mindless self at the audience, while shadowy businessman Dad is rarely seen, and when he IS seen, he behaves as if he does not WISH to be seen.

You better believe that's within the zone of public comment.

47. I think Palin should be awarded an honorary "Ms. Stockyard" title.
I will smash all our boob tubes if her face appears on them much more. :puke:

57. Deemers, hello, and welcome to DU.
I predict you'll like this place.

A lot of us have hobnobbed in other blogs on the webs but we've tended to come back to this site.

It's newsy and fun.

Welcome.

70. Sarah Palin may or may not be the kind of personality who can handle fame.
It is possible that she is better geared for fame -- at least for superficial reasons -- than others, or it could be that she never even got the hang of it and is moving in a strictly marginal level of self-confidence.

My gut reaction is that she knew that she was being handed sarcastic, mean-spirited zingers for her acceptance speech in St. Paul, but that she did not care how sarcastic and unfounded they were.

In particular she spat out the community organizer zinger as if it were a legitimate observation on American life. Plainly it is nothing of the sort, but there she was reading it right off the teleprompter and smirking to the camera as if it were a valid point.

Her husband is in legal difficulties, or was, or will be -- who knows? -- and Gov. Palin is visibly ambitious for the 2012 GOP nomination.

I think Romney and Huckabee are at LEAST as ambitious for the same job and I think both their camps will see to it that Palin's road to the 2012 nomination is as difficult as possible until it becomes impossible outright.

At this hour I don't suppose Sarah Palin considers Huckabee or Romney to be anything more than 2008 has-beens, left in the ditch by McCain's soaring quest for the nomination.
