President-elect Barack Obama Saturday continued filling out his White House staff, announcing key communications aides, including spokesman Robert Gibbs.
Along with Gibbs, Obama also selected Ellen Moran to be communications director and Dan Pfeiffer to serve as her deputy.
"These individuals will fill essential roles, and bring a breadth and depth of experience that can help our administration advance prosperity and security for the American people,” Obama said in a statement. “This dedicated and impressive group of public servants includes longtime advisors and a talented new addition to our team, and together we will work to serve our country and meet the challenges of this defining moment in history.”
Gibbs served as Obama’s communications director on his Senate staff and during the Illinois lawmaker’s presidential campaign before being named senior strategist during the general election.
The bespectacled Southerner's ties to Obama date back to April 2004, when he first served as communications director for Obama’s 2004 Senate race.
Moran currently holds the position of executive director for EMILY’s List, an organization supporting female Democratic candidates for higher office who support abortion rights.
Pfeiffer presently works as communications director for Obama’s transition team. Before that, he worked for various prominent Washington lawmakers, including Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., Sen. Tim Johnson, D-SD, and former Sen. Tom Daschle, D-SD, who will be Obama’s Secretary of Health & Human Services.
