Why Presidents don't fly first class commercial....
Edited on Sat Nov-22-08 07:22 PM by ddeclue
Imagine if President Obama had to fly first class commercial instead of Air Force One... (I'm thinking about this because of the whole Big Three private jet fiasco this week - this would make a funny SNL skit..)

Please empty your pockets Mr. President we need the watch and sunglasses too...place your personal items in the bowl and put it on the conveyor. Please take off your shoes Mr. President and place them on the conveyor. Now please walk through the metal detector hands at your sides.

Can I see your ticket and photo ID Mr. President... did you pack your own bags Mr. President? have they been in your possession since you packed them? Has anyone asked you to carry anything for them or given you anything to carry?

You'll be sitting in First Class, I see you've gotten 247,250 frequent flier miles accumulated since your inauguration - You understand that you are allowed only one carry on item and one personal item... I see .. your blackberry? Here let me put that bag in the overhead for you...

We'll be serving meals in the first class cabin about 30 minutes after takeoff, please be sure to inform the flight attendants whether you want the chicken or the pasta - and you're in luck...we'll be serving pie for dessert.

I'm sorry Mr. President... I understand that you're on a call with the Japanese prime minister but FAA rules say that you have to turn off your blackberry before we can leave the gate.

Here's your headphones Mr. President. That'll be three dollars. Would you like a cocktail before takeoff?

This is Captain Bob from the flight deck I'm sorry but there's been a slight delay here at Dulles International and we are currently number eight for departure. We expect to be airborne in approximately 15 minutes....our flying time to Atlanta will be approximately 90 minutes...I'd like to thank President Obama for flying US Air to San Diego with us today and welcome him and his entourage aboard our flight.

Mr. President there will be a two hour layover in Atlanta and you'll have to catch your connecting flight to San Diego in terminal C at gate 23. We'll have a rental car waiting for you at Hertz - the shuttle bus will take you out to the rental agency and we'll go from there to the convention center for the speech. Please be sure to fill up the tank before you return the rental.

6. Fine, except for one flub...
There is no more "USAir" anymore -- they're known as "US Airways."

7. OK... I just flew USAir to England and back this month...
sorry if I'm not paying attention to the marketing hype...

They started out as USAir...they're still USAir to me...

Why the change? Didn't like their nick name of US Scare??

8. And while you're at it you should have dinged me for making the
connection be in Atlanta instead of Charlotte since USAir's hub is Charlotte and Delta's is Atlanta but I'm just going for basic feel of air travel frustration, not hyper accuracy...

5. Commercial flying just taxes my patience...
even first class does... I just came back from a two week trip to England which wasn't even first class (not even my company President flies first class so it's not like they were being cheap to me..) and it is quite frustrating at times, especially all the ridiculous nonsense you go through these days at security.

I was just imagining how frustrated a President would become and how difficult his day would be if he had to fly commercial, even first class and it just came to me to write this.

I don't really fault the CEO's of the big three automakers for flying private jets to Washington other than it was bad PR. I blame them for not making any effort to improve CAFE standards and being late and lazy on flex fuel, fuel cell, and electric vehicles because it doesn't help their immediate quarterly profit figures - they've been solely focused on the quarterly report for the last 30 years and have made little to no investment in basic research.

14. Imagine what would happen if he were flying Southwest?
Boarding group C, definitely.

Imagine what snarky comment they would direct Barack's way during their banterous announcements?
