ZOMG!1!1!! David Axelrod says..."We have to make some hard choices" (TRANSCRIPT)
WALLACE: It's been suggested that one way that Mr. Obama could reassure the markets is to announce that he is not going to raise any taxes, even on the wealthy and corporations, during a recession.

Is that something that he is considering announcing, postponing that part of this tax plan?

AXELROD: Well, as you know, Chris, the aggregate effect of his plan would be a net tax cut. He's committed to getting middle-class tax relief in the pipeline quickly, and there's no doubt that we're going to have to make some hard decisions in order to pay for the things we need.

And whether it is through repeal of those tax cuts for the very wealthiest or whether we simply allow it to — allow those cuts to expire in 2010, we're going to accomplish that because we have to. We have to make some hard choices.

WALLACE: But you're making it sound as if one consideration would be to let them expire, which means that the taxes would go up on the wealthy and corporations in 2011 rather than calling for it right away so it would happen in 2009.

AXELROD: Well, as I said, you know, those considerations will be made. The main thing right now is to get this economic recovery package on the road, to get money in the pockets of the middle class, to get these projects going, to get America working again, and that's where we're going to be focused in January.

1. Obama's plan has
ALWAYS been to let them expire. Let's remember that as the stinkers try to point and claim broken promises....while wringing their hands.

5. Correct. The 95% provision has always been the cornerstone of Obama's fiscal policy proposal.
On that, he's steadfast. Wild-eyed claims of broken promises two months before Obama is even sworn in is stinky...to say the least.

4. two thoughts from above....
"And whether it is through repeal of those tax cuts for the very wealthiest or whether we simply allow it to — allow those cuts to expire in 2010, we're going to accomplish that because we have to. We have to make some hard choices."

"The main thing right now is to get this economic recovery package on the road, to get money in the pockets of the middle class, to get these projects going, to get America working again, and that's where we're going to be focused in January."

Big picture. Folks, look at the big picture.

Obama may delay tax-cut rollback for wealthy

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President-elect Barack Obama may consider delaying a campaign promise - to roll back tax cuts on high-income Americans - as part of his economic recovery strategy, two aides said on Sunday.

David Axelrod, the Obama campaign strategist who was chosen to be a senior White House adviser, was asked if the tax cuts could be allowed to expire on schedule after tax year 2010 rather than being rolled back by legislation earlier. "Those considerations will be made," he said on "Fox News Sunday."

10. Lol. The main way Obama is going to scare the sh!t out of the Republicans
is that they expect him to chose effete - seeming, mannerly, soft spoken, over thinking, after-youing diplomats -- when he's gathering all the sonuvabitches he can find.

I apolitically

LOVE

that part.

to be helping, so that's good news.

But, that term "hard choices" always gives me the heebeejeebees, because it usually means the poorer folk, not the monied folk, are going to get slugged one way or another. You know, "Heck, it's a hard choice for me to make as I lie back in the lap of luxury and make these painful decisions which - did I say? - aren't going to affect me and my pals adversely..."

So, it's difficult to know what he means with a public pronouncement like that. At a private level, they might consider the choice of where additional money is to come from, difficult, but if it will adversely affect the proposed beneficiaries, that particular phrase, used in its normal sense, doesn't make a lot of sense.

But maybe we all get a bit prematurely paranoid over different issues and comments made by the politicians. After all, it's not always wise for them to show their hand before acting. Whatever Obama has said in the past, evolving circumstances could, on some occasions, entail his modifying some earlier policies he had devised, in any case. But it doesn't mean he'll want to show his hand, as and when such changes occur.
