6. The boyfriend and I got weepy when the President-elect brought his lovely family on stage.
The b/f also recorded it for me. I now have a permanent keepsake of that amazing, wonderful night. :-)

And the fact that you got to share it with someone you love makes it that much sweeter,
doesn't it? :)

I was with some very dear friends and very glad to share it with them.

10. Sure does!
I made sure I'd be with him. :-)

Doug said, when he and I were getting weepy, "this is right out of a movie". And it was. It was...magical. An actual happy ending.

I'm glad you were able to share that wonderful night with dear friends.

16. I shared my first glass of champagne with my son who had turned 21 just weeks before
on that night.

He had seen me cry so often over the last 8 years over the direction that blivet** was taking the country but he didn't see me cry that night. Not one tear. A peace came over me that I hadn't known for so long that all I could do was smile.

The tears come now when I see threads with such hopeful pictures. But, this time, they are tears of relief.

20. Beautiful!
It was such a feeling of relief. I know we ALL had the feeling of doom that they might do something to steal it again. These images portray the hope, love and unity that we all share. :)

131. Sydnie, that's the same reaction I had. Just a serenity and calmness that was sublime.
During the runup to the election there had been so many tears of joy and hope reading the stories of people who never ever would have even dreamed that such a moment could happen.

I had to be out of town for a seminar so I didn't get to share it with my wife and in-laws who were all big Obama fans, but still it was sweet. So sweet.

Thank you for the pics, Jackeen!! and the memories.

61. I just have this shit-eating grin that won't stop.
Look at everybody in those pictures - looking so elated! So happy - for a change! What a difference an election night makes.

We had an election night party at our house - lots of hugging, cheering, hollering, hooting, crying, dancing, laughing - everybody was HAPPY! It felt like this big weight was being lifted - like the storm clouds that had locked us all in for years were clearing away, and sunshine was breaking through.

I felt so relieved! As though we'd all broken free!

VERY beautiful series of photos! A keeper. I'm definitely bookmarking this, myself.

Oh, it doesn't matter what you wear
Just as long as you are there
So come on, every guy grab a girl
Everywhere around the world
There'll be dancin'
They're dancin' in the street

This is an invitation
Across the nation
A chance for the folks to meet
There'll be laughin' and singin' and music swingin'
And dancin' in the streets

26. The caption on that photo -

Kenyan family members of U.S. Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama celebrate after his victory in the U.S. election was announced, at the family's homestead in Kogelo village, Kenya, Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008. The village is where U.S. Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama's step-grandmother lives. Barack Obama's Kenyan family erupted in cheers Wednesday, singing "We are going to the White House!" as Obama became the first African-American elected president in the United States.

This tells me President-elect Obama knows the weight of the task ahead of him.
It also tell me he really loves his wife and this is not just a show for the public.

as we put on our hard hats and pull on our work gloves and reach for the shovels and brooms for the work ahead.

How very, very appropriate that we will share a common grace around our Thanksgiving tables.

Our election night celebration concluded with a single word.

Amen.

54. Sometimes things do go right
Sometimes

by Sheenagh Pugh

Sometimes things don't go, after all,
from bad to worse. Some years, muscadel
faces down frost; green thrives; the crops don't fail.
Sometimes a man aims high, and all goes well.

A people sometimes will step back from war,
elect an honest man, decide they care
enough, that they can't leave some stranger poor.
Some men become what they were born for.

Sometimes our best intentions do not go
amiss; sometimes we do as we meant to.
The sun will sometimes melt a field of sorrow
that seemed hard frozen; may it happen for you.

76. What a night, indeed.
When they announced that Barack had won the presidency, our little family of four cheered and embraced. Then we went out on the porch to shout our joy.

I'm so glad my kids got to experience that. They'll never forget it, and neither will I.

111. The @Lasts depart for foreign shores sometime in the next few months to stay (Bonn or Prague)
and we thank America for making us feel more welcome there than we felt in 2006 (since the move is semi-permanent). From our travels last year overseas, we know that the world wanted this so badly.

Malaysian cabbies, waitpersons, hotel clerks, all the way to CEOs--Obama was all they could talk about--and we were more than happy to share their enthusiasm.

More happy, happy tears. I don't think I will ever forget the sheer joy of that wonderful night! I'm missing my already ex-pat'ed husband terribly and I needed a jolt of great, big HAPPY!

You provided. Thank you, Jackeens!

128. Looking at these made me realize something...
for the rest of my life, if I even think of that night, or see pics of that night like these, it will make me weep tears of joy. Just automatically, no stopping it. I will never forget where I was and who I was with and what was going on that night. I wondered for weeks how I would react and as it turned out, I stood stock still, shocked to my core (I guess I was afraid it might not happen) and tears just poured down my face and I kept thinking "it happened it happened it happened it happened." Then I started hugging and being hugged!

I'm also grateful my teenage daughter was old enough to remember it. She was with me that night.

Thanks for this thread, it's a keeper!
