Poll question: Does the Media read this Website, In your opinion?
Edited on Mon Nov-24-08 02:00 AM by FrenchieCat
I have always believed that the Media reads this blog each and every day, and from it comes their inspiration for some of their news stories. I also believe that they lift our research, i.e., if we don't like a certain public official, some media operatives lift our links and shit and takes credit for the research information.

Now, the only problem I have with that is I hate the Media.....
more so than even George Bush or any Republican
or for sure, any Democrats.

So what do you think.
Do you believe the media comes specifically to DU?
Do you think they use us and the information we provide for their own use?

1. My dear FrenchieCat...
I honestly don't have a clue...

I wouldn't be surprised, either way...

They quote Politico and, if I'm not mistaken, I've heard them reference Huffington Post.

Plus they know if they copy and past our shit, then act like they don't know anything about us.

3. Well, I know of a few who definitely do.
Randi Rhodes has mentioned us, also Ed Schultz, and Keith Olbermann is definitely aware of his KOEB fan club! I also believe that Rachel Maddow reads DU or her staff does... Granted, all these people are the rare "liberal" media, but they're also the ones who share our progressive beliefs and the ones that we're most likely to listen to or watch...:-)

6. Could be a good thing.....
But I'm of the mind that it's a mixed situation.

Cause it seems like they can pick up on stories that are not good for our Democrats....

since we don't ever have much to say nasty about Republicans (with the exception of during the election...but seems like they ignored what we had to offer on that).

18. In Clinton's administration I refused to criticize someone I despised because I'm a Democrat
Edited on Mon Nov-24-08 02:19 AM by happychatter
That was training for BEING highly critical of someone I love now... it came full circle

(not that I'm personally all THAT critical at this point)

I've done a lot of thinking about stuff I didn't want to deal with after Nov 4th

seems like the doom and gloomers wouldn't give me five damn minutes to be happy

oh, I was pissed

now I'm softening

Bill Clinton required me to defend him with flame throwers....

not a negative word about him came out of my mouth for eight years

he sold America, the working class, and to my heart, the worst thing... the working poor

DOWN THE RIVER

while I was defending his ungrateful ass

it's not gonna happen this time... neoliberalism is the problem, not the solution...

so... I'm trained... READY ON DAY ONE.... lol

I'm crankychatter... been watching DU since it started but not on board until the primaries... my puter crashed a couple of days before the election and I created a new account because I couldn't remember what email account I used to open up... couldn't wait

now, I'm happy

if you're reading this.... I just want to say thank YOU for all the posts during the primary... you helped ME a whole lot

But also others... Mad Flo... she's wonderful even when she's flaming the prez to be

the other day there was a debate on democracy now between jeremy scahill and a guy from Mother Jones... embodied the divisions here I think (excluding the clinton supporters that wouldn't say a positive word about Obama until he it leaked that he would appoint her to SoS....they don't count)

The fact is I love both of those guys... the one trying to be optimistic and realistic... the other saying WE MUST HOLD HIS FEET TO THE FIRE....

love them... we need EVERYONE... the MSM is the enemy... we are NOT going to manage what they put out there by keeping mum up in THIS HOUSE

they're going to need to be legislated out of dominance

Both the good ones and the bad ones. One day you'll hear DU posts quoted by Thom Hartmann and Mike Malloy, the next day you'll hear them quoted by Limpballs and O'Loofa.

19. They don't have to read us. There are folks like you, who send them the best stuff...

Media people are very busy reading each others' columns, news items, and governmental tidbits. I don't think many of them, other than maybe a few staff members for left and right editorialists (like Olberman and O'Reilly), who probably wander here on their own time occasionally.

But I do think they see the things that cause a big fuss here, because those media folks glean our fodder through their email, which I'd bet contain a lot of the stuff we talk about here.

23. They read it. Lumped in with other "liberal blogs"
This and the other liberal blogs are a good source of public opinion from the left. I don't know who else here watches FOX, but I hear their guest strategists mention DU and Daily Kos pretty often when talking about the current climate on the left.

Edited on Mon Nov-24-08 11:29 AM by Clio the Leo
... spokesperson for "Our Country Deserves Better" some right wing PAC out in CA that is running a series of "Thank You Sarah" ads. He's on MSNBC now and he's saying that his ads are being greeted by "vitriol" and "sheer fury" by the people posting to Ariana Huffington, DailyKos and Democratic Underground. Says the comments have been "vile" and "racist."

I have no idea what he's talking about as I have not heard about this ad until MSNBC reported it this morning. The only thing remotely racist I see is him including an African American woman in the ad thanking Sarah for "bringing back hope to America!"

PLEASE! You name me ONE thing Palin has done for the African American community and I will EAT the head of that turkey that got lopped off behind her last week!

Get this man off of my screen! lol It's idiots like this that cost the Republicans the election in the first place.

28. Sure they do. If they didn't, they wouldn't have assigned reporters to monitor the Internet Buzz.
Plus, the major pundits (and some politicians) are internet savvy. So, I believe that a lot of people in the MSM (and in important postions of power) do read this site and many others. If they didn't, they'd be foolish.

30. I have seen some of my posts reappear.

One in particular I can remember; I did a statistical post in the primaries to show overall that Obama was doing on average just as well in big states as Senator Clinton. I noticed afterwards that it included a couple of typographical errors but that the totals were correct (I inverted the numbers). A couple of days later I saw the same point and the same states and the same numbers including the typographical errors but the correct totals. That particular one was on MSNBC update blog.

I think the more important question is do they follow our interest in a story.

I think the answer is yes.

In the case of the Backward B girl I think that they noticed when we launched 100 threads on it.

Also is something were to occur that would generate 100 threads of condemnation on President Elect Obama they would see that there was a possible story of Netroot backlash.

They would be stupid not to check in here and some other sites for ideas on stories.

It is quite surprising the depth and breadth of personal experience and knowledge that posters here bring.

revolting over the repulsive picks of PE Obama.

OH NOOOESSSS!!11 It's HUGH11!!eleven11!!

Seriously, since the netroots have been screaming bloody murder at every one of O's choices, the CorpWhoreMedia has been practically drooling at the mouth over this curious phenomenon and bring the netroot revolt topic up every chance they get.
