Disturbing incident at the Chinese take-out
Last Wednesday, I stopped after work to pick up dinner at a local Chinese takeout. This was one of the days when the market plummeted and people were talking about the economy.I said it is unfortunate that this was happening during the lame duck period, when no one is really in charge. A woman about my age (forties), was there with a girl who was probably about 8. She said "It doesn't matter Obama will never be inaugurated." I asked "What do you mean by that" She said "Oh he'll definitely be assassinated- that's the consensus among my friends. Then the blacks will riot and no one will be safe because stupid white people voted for him" I said "And I was one of them"

No one else said a word. I wanted to call Child Protective Services to get that poor child out of that house before she becomes permanently corrupted by hate. Who says something like that? In front of a child, no less? In front of total strangers? I'm still depressed.

1. Base fears, rooted in ignorance. It may take awhile for these to settle down but
they will eventually.

2. A lot of people think of this
as if it is inevitable, and just another day as the world turns in darkness. To me it isn't the hatred that scares me. It is the shrugging shoulders of people who state something this horrific as if it is just another thing, oh well.. yeah so what. God that is scary.

Yeah so what..

JFK
MLK

so what..shrugs

our children's lives taken by an unnecessary war

so what..not my kids! Not my ass!

5. It happened in NY
On Long Island- she's likely one of the lunatics who thinks it's OK to bash immigrants too.

I wish I could afford to live in the city.

11. Well, the thing about New York and Obama is...
Edited on Mon Nov-24-08 08:38 AM by CreekDog
That Obama's margin was the same there as in California.

New York has cycle after cycle voted more solidly Democratic than California --by like 10%. Same with Massachusettes. But this cycle? Nope.

Do you see what I'm getting at with those two states? :eyes:

The good news is that most folks are not the problem but a sizable minority in the Northeast have some real issues with race and/or national origin.

14. It's bad enough that they live with their heads up their arses
It's even worse that they admire the view.

12. This doesn't surprise me. There are tons of idiots out there and surprisingly they always seem to
make it to the polls on election day.

To poster 11:

Staten Island voted for McCain. I am not shocked but damn, Staten Island, it's like that?
Just a fun fact I picked up over at dailykos

15. Look, don't take it to heart.
People will say stupid things no matter what, and unfortunately she's not the first nor last person who will say something so insensitive.

As a Clinton supporter for years, I have learned to develop a hide as thick as an elephant. It's not worth getting depressed, there are too many asses out there to allow them to ruin your day.

18. depressed is how I'd feel
or disgustedly mad, seeing that people are so seriously WRONG. This kinda stuff is why I have to avoid people, so many I've come in contact with have scared me. That lady should be ashamed of saying things like that in public.
It's good to have DU, a place to let out horribleness like this.
