The end of 8 unfair years (wingnut letter to Philly.com, with comments)
Letters: The end of 8 unfair years
(Philly.com, November 24, 2008)

WELL, the election has come and gone, and we have our first African-American president. The entire country - if not the world - has been whipped into a frenzy of hope and enthusiasm. A combination of money and the media pushed a man into office we hardly know.

You'll excuse me if I don't share in the excitement. For eight years, I've been subjected to hearing my country turn on its GOP president, ridiculed for everything he's tried to do.

Hollywood celebrities, themselves not known for brainpower, had the audacity to cast aspersions on his intelligence.

The man could do nothing right since Sept. 11, 2001. No amount of pleas for peace with honor in Iraq has pacified the public's contempt. (How quickly we forget LBJ, who refused to end the Vietnam War because he didn't want to be the first president to lose a war.)

And, so it went for eight long years - ridicule, disdain, criticism. So intense that people who supported the president were embarrassed to say so.

We skulked around like common criminals, keeping silent when we should have spoken up, while the country did everything it could to undermine the presidency. Well, it's time to put things into perspective.

On George W. Bush's watch, I was able to work, travel, pay off my home equity loan, pay my bills, have food on the table, feel secure in my home and worship as I please. Despite the horrendous attack in 2001, our country was safe for seven years, perhaps not the way we would've liked, but safe all the same. And, who's to say they could have done it better?

So, forgive me if I don't partake in all the enthusiasm. Forgive me if I withhold my support until I see what the new president can do. I'm willing to give the man a chance, one that those who set out to tear down the Bush administration weren't willing to give.

History will determine who deserves the adulation and who doesn't. Meanwhile, I hope you'll give me time to mourn.

Wendy M. Krisher
Newtown Square

1. The comments only add
to my growing dislike for the conservative right.

I plan to drink my way through Thanksgiving dinner with the family, and then head home as soon as possible. My aunt and cousins are conservative, bigotted, hate filled right wingers. If it were not for my elderly grandmother and my mother I would not be attending any more family "fun" filled events.

6. Debau, for some real fun I recommend wearing your Obama T-shirt,
If you have one handy. I've purchased both of Barack's books as X-mas gifts for my Republican sister. She's actually a fair-minded, very loving lady, but watches nothing but Fox and is therefore, woefully uninformed.

2. This makes me ill. Prez Bush turned allies into enemies and lost PR contests with ObL and Hussein.

3. Oddly, it seems as though freepers have no intention of supporting
the Obama presidency even though it was pointed out in the above letter how bad lack of support hurt *.

4. America re-elected Bush in 2004
this was after 9/11 happened on his watch, after he launched his fraudulent war, and after numerous other failures. I think Bush got more than a fair shake.

8. Bush was pummeled with feather-covered marshmallows compared
to the "liberal media fawning" that Clinton had to endure, and what Obama will face ...

9. What can trillions of dollars and killing over a million people do? Halve your 401k!
I could honestly understand her argument if the stock market was doing well. But this type of person would say that Bush is responsible for gas prices coming down and that everything that's bad is because of the "liberals".

BTW: Newtown Square, where "Signs" was filmed, is practically Amish country. The only people of color Wendy sees are those getting in and out of the landscapers truck, while she drives her kids to the mall in her SUV while listening to Glenn Beck.

10. Newtown Square is quite a bit away from "Amish country"
:P And that movie was filmed in Bucks County's Newtown, not Delaware County's Newtown Square.

15. I'm so sorry. Yes, Newtown Square is not Newtown.
My sister in law lived in Newtown, and I was up there twice before she moved. Newtown is like 60 miles away from me in South Jersey.

12. Wendy seems to have a problem with misplaced modifiers, too!
"and the media pushed a man into office we hardly know."

We hardly know the office?

Wendy, try to use your brain, and stop the "fawning" over George's brilliant leadership that gave us this recession and so many dead around the world.

Let Wendy eat cake!

13. I gotta say, I love how the wingers are willing to give W a mulligan for 9/11.
"He kept us safe! Except for the whole 9/11-worst-terrorist-attack-on-America-ever thing. But c'mon! It was only one day! And after THAT he kept us safe!"

Groooooooaaaaaan.

17. our country was safe
if you weren't in the military. But I guess cowards like this never serve. Sure you worked but saw your actual income and buying power drop despite longer hours. Woot. Travel? The dollar dropped in value so the only traveling you could afford is within the country. How's the home equity loan bills going now, cause Bush is still president and all. Oh and Bush only promised food on your family, that it got on your table too is only a side benefit. Secure in your home? He's sitting over the biggest foreclosure disaster in American history. Wendy worships the dollar and yes Bush loved Americans that loved themselves and their money more than there fellow countrymen. History shows morans like Wendy don't deserve adulation but do deserve to be made fun of on the internet(s).
