1. This list fails for not having Richard Burr on it |
|
Liddy f'ing Dole had her ass handed to her by essentially a no-name candidate. Burr isn't as well-known as Dole was and every NC Democratic heavy-hitter is gunning for this seat in 2010.
Unless it's somehow a big GOP year, expect a pickup there all things being equal.

7. Yeah, but presumably Burr has actually been trying to represent NC. |
|
Dole was just about the worst Senator in the country and when the Dems campaigned against her on that issue, she was toast.
I won't count on picking up that seat.

10. That seat hasn't been held for two terms in 50 years I believe |
|
Burr has probably the lowest name recognition of any senator that's served since 2004 in the country. If he goes up against Roy Cooper or Mike Easley, he's toast. I even think my guy Grier Martin could beat him.

13. Your view from Chapel Hill is certainly more valid than mine from NYC. |
|
And if that translates into a pickup for the good guys, I'll definitely drink a toast to your prediction!

I think NH will keep Gregg, he's pretty invisible, but used to be Governor, and no Dem, (other than the current Gov) is really a high enough profile person to challenge him.

12. John Lynch could beat Judd Gregg in New Hampshire. |
|
Lynch is the governor and consistently has an approval rating over 70%.

3. i was just writing about this with some friends, here was my view a couple of weeks ago |
|
this was in response to an article by karl rove
"Third of all, more Republican senate seats are up for election in 2010 than Democratic ones. All of the Democratic incumbents are fairly strong. There'll be a special election in Illinois and Delaware to replace Obama and Biden, but those will more than likely go to Democrats (especially Delaware). The Republicans, on the other hand, have several weak incumbents like Florida (where Martinez loses or ties with a handful of possible Democratic challengers), Arizona (if the election were held today, McCain would lose to the Governor), but throw in there Missiouri and Ohio. Throw in possible retirements, and those favor Democrats as well, in Connecticut and Pennsylvania."
but to respond to your post, i don't see boxer, dorgan, or reid in serious risk, but i guess cilizza had to put in democrats as well to look "balanced"

4. I can't see Arnold beating Boxer - isn't his approval rating in the tank again? |
|
The only way Babs' seat is competitive is if she runs for governor and it's an open seat.

5. All she has to do is run ads |
|
showing Arnold with Bush in 2000, 2004 and then his lame attempt to support McCain in 2008. Is that who California wants representing them in Washington a man that supported and approved of Bush? I thinks not. His budget disaster has made him pretty unpopular as well.

8. Agreed, Boxer is pretty much golden in California. |
|
I'd love to see Ahhnold try against her... she'd kick his steroid laden ass.
But it won't happen... his wife will talk him out of it if she wants him to stay in politics.

almost lost. If the dems run someone good, the seat is ours for the taking. I believe that Ben Chandler may run for it; he is currently rep for Lexington in House of Reps and of course has statewide name recognition.

9. Paul Hodes can beat Judd Gregg |
|
If Hodes (the NH-2 congressman) runs, Gregg is going to be in big trouble.
