For those whining re: # of progressives in the Cabinet, the Barnes appointment is huge
She is a bona fide progressive who is going to have unbelievable influence over domestic policy. As written in Kos "Barnes will coordinate the mega-board of the Cabinet secretaries of Health and Human Services, Justice, Labor, Education, Housing and Urban Development, Commerce, Energy, Treasury, Agriculture, Transportation, Interior and Veterans Affairs. Basically, she'll be domestic policy czar."

We have progressive President (go ahead haters I know you don't think he is BUT HE IS) and now a progressive domestic policy czar. I know it won't take long for the progressive pouters to find something else to complain about.

5. Let's not forget pouters and whiners
I am sorry, but anyone who uses these terms to engage in discussion is not really interested in a discussion.....they are interested in a flame war and all of the attention that flamewars get them.

Sad, really, because a dialogue needs to take place. But in order for that to happen, the mendacity needs to be be brought down by a degree of magnitude.

2. You fling insults to the wind but its the 'other guy' who's the hater. riiight.
Its sad that I agree that Barnes is a progressive choice but am disgusted by your trashy way of posting that information.

3. Im not really worried about making you sad. It seems people who exercise their RIGHT to criticize
. . .Obama hate it when folks call them out on it. We are both exercising our right, why is one more acceptable than the other?

4. Criticizing a decision or opinion and hurling insults are very different.
Too bad you can't understand that.

6. Because group attacks are against the rules
Haters, whiners, pouters.....how about "opponents"?

These terms only serve to disparage, and disparagement for its own sake is against DU rules.

11. And every call-out is against the rules.
I would not be so proud of your methods. This is something left to the mods....not to self-deputized DUers. You find a problem, hit alert. You want to hurl insults? Please do not do it here as it is against the rules.

9. My problem has never been about the left bona fides of who he's picked...
...but rather that they're all recycled.

I'm sure there are people with vast amounts of experience in foreign policy or defense or whatever who haven't either been a senator or already served in the Clinton Administration.

I was looking forward to "change" and new people with new ideas.

10. I have finished a quick review and this Is a good appointment
Edited on Mon Nov-24-08 03:14 PM by Zodiak Ironfist
"Under President Bush, the Domestic Policy Council oversees major domestic policy areas such as education, health, housing, welfare, justice, federalism, transportation, environment, labor and veteran's affairs. The Office of National AIDS Policy (ONAP), the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), USA Freedom Corps (USAFC), the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) and the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (OFBCI) are also affiliated with the Domestic Policy Council. The Domestic Policy Council’s formal membership includes the cabinet Secretaries and Administrators of federal agencies that affect the issues addressed by the DPC."

This position seems to have a great deal of power, and it is encouraging that Obama's mouthpiece for this council (Barnes) is a progressive.

Basically, the way the structure is working out is that we will have a team of centrists with a progressive offering oversight and making sure policy is implemented. At least on domestic matters.

I give this appointment an A+.

I am just dismayed that it had to be presented to DU with such loaded language towards many of our members.
