Don't you wonder what Obama and his family must think seeing so many people crying from happiness? |
|
I've never seen a presidency that caused people (white as well as African-American) to become so emotional. I'm sure he realizes people see him differently from the way they've seen any other president in history, and I don't think it's the fact that he's African-American. There's much more to it than that. I think after Republicans destroying our country for decades, it's finally reached CODE BLUE and it's teetering on the edge of dying. I think it's also having 8 years of an unintellectual, psychotic, evil clown running this nation at the orders of an even sicker sob, his puppetmaster, Dick Cheney. I think it's a lot of things. Everyone's nerves are frayed and everyone is so greatful to have President-Elect Obama. There's an intense sadness at what Republicans have been done to our working and middle class, and a great joy to finally have a brilliant, good, kind man in charge.

6. I've thought about.... |

what it must be like for his family to see the jubilant reaction in the form of both laughter and tears... my personal guess is that they are deeply humbled.

8. It would be terrifying, I think. I dissapoint myself daily. |

Not tragically or anything mind you, but still.
I can't imagine being the vessel of so many powerful dreams and the subject of so many astronomical expectations.

12. Ditto - I know I couldn't handle it. |

No question. It's a different kind of pressure than being despised, but I know I'd snap.
I respect how he is pulling together an "inner" team of people that he wholeheartedly trusts, like Jarrett, and the social secretary. Not to mention, it will be good for the kids and Michelle to have some people around that they know well. Plus her mom. At this point, I'd say that's become a necessity.

Race is only part of it.
He's young, and intelligent, and a good man. He represents the best this country has to offer, the promise of America made flesh.
He appeals to the best instincts of people, the part that hopes, and wishes to serve others and sacrifice. Rather than appealing to their worst instincts, their fear, greed, xenophobia as certain other leaders have appealed to these last several years.
He represents an end to Bush, that's almost enough for tears of joy, in and of itself.

13. I bet Michelle laughs at it |

For example, wouldn't it trip you out to see a random person you've never met wearing a shirt with your spouse's image on it? I bet she has kidded him quite a bit about that.
