The Obama Bounce: Consumer Confidence Unexpectedly Rises in Nov.
Consumer Confidence Unexpectedly Rises in Nov.
Associated Press
Tuesday, November 25, 2008; 10:03 AM

NEW YORK -- A private research group says consumer confidence rose in November, but Americans' views on the economy remain gloomiest in decades. The New York-based Conference Board says its Consumer Confidence Index stands at 44.9, up from a revised 38.8 in October. Last month's reading was the lowest since the research group started tracking the index in 1967. Economists surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected the November reading to slip to 37.9. Still, the November figure is about half of what it was a year ago, and hovers around levels not seen since December 1974, when the index was 43.2.

I suspect this number will continue to rise as we move closer and closer to the Obama era!

1. It was 138 in 1998
It was high when Bush took office too, but that was the idiots who thought he was going to jawbone the gas prices down. Suckers still can't see how badly they were taken.

2. I doubt we will ever see numbers like that again.
But surely there will be a nice bump up resulting from general optimism about the coming Obama administration.

3. Wish we could see a bit more of that general optimism around here...
I just got home, and half a dozen threads have already destroyed the good mood I had from the easy night at work...

4. Agreed. It's been disappointing here lately.
It's hard to believe that election of Obama was only 3 weeks ago. I think many here would have been much happier if Obama had simply had a panel of DUers make all of his choices for him so they would line up with their personal definition of "change".

5. No one person exists tha matches everyone's specific definition of change
Mine is a change from incompetence to competence, and a government that serves the whole instead of the portions. This definition, of course, is streamlined, and has a lot more details I'm omitting. But it's the gist of it.
