Says it was a good move on Obama's part to keep him on. Had good things to say about him. General Clark said that he would likely be there for a year or less.

He was in Chicago at the celebration on election night and is thrilled that Obama won.

Ed asked him if he would like to be asked to serve as SoD and General Clark said yes, but that the party had a lot of talented people for that position.

Ed said that he could not imagine anyone more qualified, but General Clark repeated that Obama has others to pick from and that he is enjoying his private sector work.

Keep making that cash General, but when Obama calls you in 2010*, please accept.

(General Clark isn't eligible until 2010)

1. Thanks for this news! I agree, Clark is qualified but probably
wants to leave Gates there for a while, too!

Did you see Brad Blakeman praise Obama's decision on MSNBC a little bit ago?

I usually hit the mute button when he opens his mouth to speak but I kept the sound on so I could gloat over his swallowing the bitter pill. But he had nothing but good things to say about Obama's choices for the Cabinet and advisers.

16. He's this guy - a Republican talking head at MSNBC

He's had absolutely nothing good to say about the Dems during the entire Primary and General Election season. He's why I started using the mute. I just couldn't take him.

And btw, I corrected my typo above. I meant "gloat" not "goat". This is a week for fun typos!

3. Well... I'd had rather see Clark as SoS, but Def Sec would
be fine and dandy, too.

Obama would be overlooking a lot of international clout and talent if he overlooked Clark.

I mean, his other choices (as speculated by the media)? Hagel the Republican, Luger the ancient and Richardson the "has no business near defense?" Oh, come on!

5. He had tears streaming down his face in Grant Park
According to a HuffPo writer who was nearby. I hope Obama makes some kind of good use of Wes's incredible talents, but I don't think he is all about the military anymore. He would be great heading Homeland Security or Energy or almost anything, really.

8. Yeah, I don't get his Homeland Security choice.
Napolitano? What experience does she have other than some immigration/illegals experience? There is far more to that job than that one issue. Sorry, I must be missing something.

lose it..HEAR THAT RACHEL???? Gates has been not only an effective SoD but has also been a non partisan gentleman at all times. He's all business and he's good at the business he does. That should satisfy anybody. The bonus is, God forgive there is an "incident" Gate provides cover for the Democrats.

on edit: U-WES-A!! U-WES-A!! :patriot:

for that role. Not with near the qualifications he has. sigh.

11. I'd even like to see Gen Clark as assistant SoD...
then he could easily move up in a year or so.

12. Gates time is limited
This is one position that the transistion should be slow. 1 year should be fine and the General would then take over.

I think this is a good move.
