1. The thing about Biden
Edited on Wed Nov-26-08 07:25 PM by Shiver
Is from The West Wing. During the presidential election in the last season of the show, the Democratic VP died on election night (due to the actor who played him, John Spencer, dying in real life). What brought the question about was that the election and campaign in the West Wing was eerily similar to the one we just had.

-The Democratic nominee, Rep. Matt Santos (Jimmy Smits), was based off of Barack Obama, and the Republican nominee Arnold Vinick (Alan Alda) was based off the public perception of John McCain. Santos is a coalition-building Congressional newcomer frustrated by the polarization of Washington.

-Santos chose an experienced Washington insider - Leo McGarry, played by John Spencer - as his running mate

-Santos won the nomination after a long and vicious primary battle against two other candidates with ties to the previous administration, in particular Bob Russel, the incumbant VP, who was seen as being far more experienced.

-Santos delivered a speech on race during a critical moment in his campaign.

-Vinick, a long-time Senator from California (western state, like Arizona) won the Republican nomination early on, but was seen as 'not conservative enough' and didn't have the religious cred, so he picked a hard right evangelical governor as a running mate, Ray Sullivan of West Virginia.

And there are more I simply can't recall right now. For fans of the show, many of us actually got worried that something might happen to Biden.

3. GD: Presidential is as big a cesspool as GD: Primaries was.
Both handled badly by the administrators.

10. The same eight or ten obsessive loonies and bullies
are responsible for making both forums into toilets.

Practically all of the bullshit here is the work of a very, very small group of posters.

4. Other: Sad that a few persist in lying about Obama, but Glad that most rail against such lies

7. Expect absurdity here and you'll never be disappointed when you log on.
The only thing that troubles me when I log on is that I can't simply THINK a thread HIDDEN, I have to actually click the X to make it go away.

8. All those and more.
One of these days I need to take another break from the craziness here. DU has always been a big tent, but I think the purpose is still to support Democrats. There are some here who absolutely do NOT support Democrats, but they are allowed to stay. When they get to me too much I just stay away for a time and get my senses back. The negativity of some people leads me to believe they have ulterior motives.
