I think Barack Obama is a good man and could potentially be a great president. |
|
I think he ran a stellar campaign and made brilliant decisions at every turn. I don't agree with all of his cabinet picks, but I trust his judgment, which he has already proven in the past to be very good, and will wait to see what he actually DOES as president before I have a fit. I am very happy that I voted for him, and I am proud of my country for electing him. I am still very much excited for his presidency, and can't wait to see him get to work. I am, have been, and will continue to be a staunch supporter of our next president.

4. The fact that he WANTED the job speaks volumes |
|
Look at Junior, following in the steps of the Dawg...happening economy, no war, etc etc etc.
Now look at what Obama is stepping into. The fact that he is ready, willing and able to take it on is good enough for me. The proof shall be in the presidential pudding.

I think that he has an ability to campaign unlike anyone we have seen, and that his greatest skill is communicating the power of ideas. That has very real potential for translating into an ability to provide leadership in the executive office.
What I think is worth considering takes the ernormous number of crises we face today into account. If, for example, we say that there are 20 "problems," and he makes some progress on each of those 20 issues, will people view that as satisfactory? Or will there be divisions, where various groups will expect him to "solve" their 2 or 3 problems fully, and be far less interested in the others? (Of course, a few people will expect him to solve every problem, but that is so unrealistic that it is not an issue.)
How do individuals and groups rate successful leadership? That's an interesting concept. It is also an extremely important one, as the public's reactions and responses to Obama's leadership will define the amount of progress we actually make.
Nominated.

I trust him and hope he will keep his cabinet focused on what he wants to accomplish and not try to undermine his mandate from the people with their own agendas. I don't trust the beltway crowd one bit and I reserve the right to criticize or question anything this administration does if I feel it is reasonably warranted. I earned that right with my vote. When dealing out this criticism I will try to refrain from hyperbole, sticking to what is relevant. I've been pretty reserved in my criticisms of some of his cabinet choices. I've heard his reasons for his picks and I understand some (Emmanuel) but I strongly disagree with others (Holder the arch drug warrior and also his letting Traitor Joe off the hook). I'm giving Obama my trust and support on the condition that he doesn't fuck it up and that he keeps the DLC on a very short leash. If I feel for one second that the Democratic base is being sold out by his administration, then my trust and support will be gone, and it won't come back. This is a historic chance to bring our country back to rights. Mr. President-Elect, please don't let the DLC fuck it up for us. We're all counting on you.

Regaardless of who P-E Obama selects for his cabinet and staff of advisors there's no doubt in my mind about who's in charge. Because I have no reason not to I trust his judgement.

18. The thing I don't get with all the speculation about the various appointments is |
|
how much do we really know about these people.. some come from places we don't like or served under Clinton... but how many of them were doing their "job" as they were told. How many of them have different ideas and Obama is trying to pull those ideas. How much of the "old" thought does he need to know how to combat it? I personally don't know any of these people on a one one one level. The media loves to throw anything Clinton under a bus, and for that matter, anything Democratic. I will hold off until I see the direction and leadership. Until then, Bush is still in charge and doing a lot of damage on the way out.

Hillary is evil and out to undermine him. Just when he has everyone's best wishes and hopes behind him. Just when we have a president who can perhaps lead us into a better future by bringing everyone of good will with him including Hillary and all kinds of other people. She will sabotage him. She is evil.
So forget all the positive thinking.

21. Every president has the opportunity to be great...far too many of them |

have squandered whatever opportunity they had. bush, on the other hand, (judging by his entire adult life), was destined to be a monumental failure, he never had a chance at anything but failure.

23. I think he's a great man, with the potential to be a great president of |
|
a country that has been sorely lacking anything remotely close to a hero of integrity (among other things). I think he has the potential to be - or provide the impetus for - just that. Or both. I haven't and won't offer a definitive seal of approval yet, either... and my guess is Mr. Obama would heartily agree that doing so would be presumptuous. That guess makes me smile very wide, though.

24. I still remember well what I was thinking eight years ago. |
|
I remember thinking that the gangsters were gonna steal Florida by hook or by crook and that our next President was going to be a lazy, irresponsible, dishonest and apparently stupid person.
And that guy turned out to be much more of everything I suspected and feared.
Let us hope that I have again miscalculated, and that this new President will be even better than I dare to hope.

From what I have seen he really is looking like he will be one hell of a President. Although he was my 5th choice in the Primaries I really have begun to think he was the right choice, especially after some of the rumored cabinet picks.

26. Me, too! I'm STILL an ObamaMama! He's got a big job ahead of him. |
|
I'll be happy if he just is able to steer our huge ship in another direction and make some progress. The problems are so many and so enormous that I don't think he can make huge strides economically. Then again...with a Dem. Congress to help, there's hope.

27. I'm too late to recommend this thread, but I agree with you - |

Obama WILL be a great President, and I have no problems with any of his legitimate selections at all. He is already seen by much of the world to be doing more good for all of us than the BushII regime did in 8 years.
