Want a good laugh? Local letter to the editor........WHAAAAAH!!
From the Daily Herald.......Chicago suburb paper

Obama win symbol of skulduggery

Contrary to your editorial, I do not see why Americans should be congratulating themselves on the election of a black president. Are we supposed to believe that this represents a defeat for racial politics? The Democrats pushed Barack Obama for president specifically because he was black. If he were not black, with his thin resume, no one would have looked at him twice. What kind of social change does this represent, electing a man because of his ancestry?

And his African ancestry does not even make sense in the context of race relations in America. Obama's ancestors were never slaves on American soil. For all we know, his ancestors may very well have sold the slaves to American colonists. The whole idea is so absurd it boggles the mind.

Obama is a trick candidate in the same way that Hillary Clinton was a trick candidate. At least nominating Clinton would have made some sense. More than 50 percent of the population consists of women. More women than men vote. Blacks make up only 13 percent of the population. The numbers do not show any shift in favor of fairness, they suggest a rigged election.

We expect Kenya to elect a black president. We expect Nigeria to elect a black president. We expect Iran to elect a Muslim president, as we expect Isreal to elect a Jewish president. If Israel elected a Muslim president, we would have a right to be suspicious.

There is more if you want but this sorry fool is not worth it!

There is a lot of racism in the Chicago area. A lot of bitterness. But this is just major denial! He sounds just like my father-in-law who swears Obama bought the White House. Tomorrow is gonna be fun!

10. That is my first question...why the hell was this letter published???
Edited on Wed Nov-26-08 11:15 PM by BrklynLiberal
How offensive and insane would a letter have to be for the editors to refuse to publish it??

The comments by the vast majority of readers indicate that they are as offended and confused as we are.
They also cannot understand why this paper even printed this venomous screed.

Edited on Wed Nov-26-08 11:52 PM by political_Dem
Finally, the ugliness of subtle racism is going to be put on the national stage now that Mr. Obama has become the President-Elect. I just hope that the ones who claim "they don't see it" will finally get a eye-opening epiphany what Mr. Obama and other Americans of color have to go through on a daily basis.

21. BUT..the vast majority of the comments were pointedly against the ideas that
were presented in that piece of trash letter. They called out the writer for the stupid racist that he is. Many said they voted for Obama because they thought he was the better candidate. I believe that if taken in balance, this letter engendered reactions that go a long way to validate the diminishing importance of race as an issue in our elected leaders.

22. Judging from the threats that Mr. Obama gets on a daily basis, I doubt it.
Edited on Wed Nov-26-08 11:46 PM by political_Dem
Although there are those who feel that institutional racism (and racism in general) is over because Mr. Obama is elected, I feel that isn't the case. Reality still shows that there is a lot of racial discrimination to go around--from the rise in white supremacist groups to the Obama assassination betting pools. There are even some national politicians and international dignitaries who don't give Mr. Obama respect by virtue of their language (i.e. "The Black Messiah", "looking tanned", "has good teeth", "Barry", "BHO", etc.).

People of color still only earn a fraction of what their white counterparts earn. Folks of color still have to put up with the subtle and blatant racism on a daily basis. There is still DWB and SWB. How one gets treated by their doctors have to do with skin color as well. And there is still a lack of empathy especially for people of color and the experiences that they have gone through.

Until people of color are truly equal in which their skin color, history and culture (as being "seen" without negativity, omission or fear) receives the same respect in public and private life as the dominant culture, there is no post-racial America.

Although, I have to say that people are becoming aware in regards to what people of color go through. In that vein, the letters against the guy who bad-mouthed Obama present a start down a long road.

knowing that a black man is more successful than he is. As much as he tries to spin it in his own mind - he KNOWS the truth. A black man is POTUS - and he beat the white guy fair and square. Hard to feel superior to a guy sitting in the oval office running the country while he hauls his butt out of bed every morning to drive his clunker to some crappy job. Sucks to be him.

31. I'm still working out the "trick" part.
I know of a couple definitions for "trick". But Obama's heritage and Hillary Clinton's gender were more like, um, *facts* than *tricks*. It's demographically factual that white people are more numerous--but it's actually kind of irrelevant. It would also probably be demographically factual to state that most people don't actually, regardless of race, see themselves as competent to be president, anyway. And yet, 8 million more people on election day saw Barack Obama as more competent to be president than the guy who had more in common with the demographic ethnic majority.

As the kids today might text: SFW. Wow--the guy who looked like he knew what he was going won--no really? People voted for "competency"? Far friggin' out.

Neat *trick*, I'd say.

I wonder how Hillary's being a woman was a trick, too. I'm sure the fact that she's a gyno-American and can discuss policy in minute detail and seem really confident doing it looks like a trick to this guy. But I bet he also thinks "pro" wrestling is 100% real, and never really understood how the little people on the screen got into his tv in the first place.

I think I've seen this letter before, and NOT in the Daily Herald, either. It looks like some right-winger wrote the original, and right-wing sheeple typed it up word-for-word and sent it in to their local paper.

My condolences to the editors of the Daily Herald. Gentlemen and Gentlewomen of the Daily Herald, you were scammed by a plagiarist.

So this is why they're called dittoheads.
I thought they just chanted "ditto" whenever Rush finished a talking point.
Apparently they're so devoid of thought they have to print their bigotry out off of a website and not alter or check spelling (Isreal? Is-real? You'd figure they would get THIS right).

Of course, I say this as a guy who gets LTTEs from action groups to send to newspapers at the click of a button. I prefer to edit the comment section a little bit before pressing "send" though.

I guess that's what is at play here.

Let us not forget that the Demorat Party is the party of the KKK, Jim Crow and the other embarassing items in American history. Is there any Democrat who can stick to the subject?
