PA Resident's Analysis on why Tweety is running
I don't think Tweety would give up his comfortable job on MSNBC if he didn't think he had a shot of winning. Here is my analysis on how Tweety could possibly win in PA.

1) Specter either doesn't run or loses in the primary. Specter only won the PA primary for Senate by 2 points in 2004. Since than over 150,000 voters have left the GOP for the democratic party. Specter would have a very difficult battle in the current GOP to win against a conservative candidate. Pat Toomey hasn't ruled out a run in 2010 and there are other nutjobs who would love to take out the man they consider the biggest Rhino.

2) Tweety gets the party establishment behind him. If Tweety can get the party establishment to pretty much endorse him he faces the same problem Obama did during the PA primary. PA still has a very strong democratic machine.

3) A conservative vs. Tweety would be a very easy race for Tweety to win. Santorum never burnished his conservative credentials till after he became part of the Leadership. PA is a moderate state.

3. His job wasnt too comfortable at MSNBC
Before his ratings surge, which has continued post Election, it was rumored that they were trying to get rid of him and replace him with Gregory.

6. His greatest "gift" ...
is his ability to put his finger to the wind and get ahead of it ... THAT is why he was republican bunghole kissing/democrat bashing corporate media whore for the first 7 years of this decade, only to turn leftward when he knew it was going to be a democratic presidential year and ride that tide.

I will NOT forgive him for being a full out media whore when it was the TOUGH thing to go against that tide, that he based Ds when they were were down and it was what he had to do to have a media job. I WILL work for whoever he faces in the primary, assuming someone else steps up.

BUT, I think he wins the primary based on name recognition, and I think he has a darn good chance of winning the general with the margins being so clear in the last two years for the governor, senate and presidential elections.

8. Sestak is about our only hope
He has 3 million in the bank, a lock on the Philly burbs, and credibility from his Naval career in the NorthEast and Western part of the state.

Only question is whether Sestak risks a safe House for a Senate position.

that could open it up. I will certainly be willing to contribute to Mr. Matthews' campaign, in a number of ways.

that doesn't get reported.

He knows something about the 2010 race that the rest of us don't.

15. Specter
has a few years of public service left. He may consider spending them in another capacity, especially if someone offered him a position.

16. The only position Specter would sell out the GOP for
Edited on Fri Nov-28-08 06:08 PM by Jake3463
would be Attorney General. Remember Ed Rendell is the Govenor so his replacement would be a democrat. Leaving for a cabinet position is essentially switching parties. and the AG job has already been given to Holder.

17. We'l see.
I'm not sure that his loyalty to the party is so strong that he would prefer to be on the team that is considering Sarah Palin as their future.

Senator Casey was an important member of the Obama-Biden team. He may be playing a role behind the scenes.

He had a brain tumor removed. Wonder if the cancer is really in remission?

24. Good he'd lose by 17 points again
People didn't vote as for much for Bob Casey, they voted against Rick Santorum. People haven't grown more fond of him since he left office and he's still as obnoxious as ever in his column that he writes.

23. Unless Obama fucks up worse than Bush ever did
Santorum's political career in PA is dead. He got beat by 18 points as an incumbent. You have to be seriously disliked to lose by 18 points when you have the power of incumbency.

25. Tweety said outrageous things all the time on his show
He wanted to get the audience excited, so Tweety was as outrageous as possible. Many of his comments offended DUers and the righties are just as offended. I can't see Tweety winning anything. There'd be too much ammunition against him.

Specter isn't all bad and he's been there a long time. It would take a solid candidate to beat him.
