Chicago Trib thinks this newsworthy: Obama donated nothing to himself but the max to Hillary
Edited on Fri Nov-28-08 11:35 AM by wndycty
I do find it interesting enough to post but I'm still puzzled why the Chicago Tribune even took the angle it did, especially considering McCain, Biden and Palin didn't donate to their respective campaigns either.

Obama's donation to his campaign? Zip

—Bob Secter
November 28, 2008

Before her death, Barack Obama's grandmother in Hawaii gave his campaign $2,300, which is precisely $2,300 more than Obama himself donated to his $639 million, record-breaking war chest.

And in this practice, Obama is in good company. Buried in federal election records is a curious fact: Candidates often don't financially support their own campaigns.

Records show that John McCain, he of the seven houses, did not donate to his presidential campaign. Neither did Sarah Palin. Joe Biden didn't chip in for his own national run either. Mayor Richard Daley also has a closed wallet when it comes to funding his or anybody else's campaign.

To be fair, Obama's wife did contribute—though not much. Michelle Obama gave $399 to her husband's campaign. The Obamas, who earned $4 million last year, sent substantially more money—$4,600—to Hillary Clinton, to help her debt-ridden campaign after she quit challenging his nomination.

3. That's very nice....
Of course when you have $100,000,000.00 and change, and more coming in, it's a bit easier to go first. :eyes:

4. It's called "professional courtesy"
Edited on Fri Nov-28-08 11:42 AM by PeaceNikki
You should look up the meaning of "courtesy", it seems foreign to you.

I am sure the Obamas had to scrimp to come up with the $4.5k with their measly $4 million in income.

5. So, it wasn't a little dig to mention that they donated first?
"Clintons are better than Obaaaamaaaaa--nyaa nyaa.."

So junior high school, this clinton crush.

6. heh. I have no "Clinton crush". What's "junior high school" is the Clinton demonization.

7. Honestly, I don't think Hillary is trying to float any rumors, I just don't know.
And I'm happy to give her the benefit of the doubt.

There are, however, (and I don't mean you) a number of people who push a rumor about the Clintons and then if challenged for sources resort to name calling.

Challenging these individuals, or calling out the media for pushing Clinton-related rumors is NOT demonizing the Clintons themselves.

Let's split a donut.. :donut:

9. You are correct...
I'm surprised that thread didn't lock, but I don't mind them having their say on this board, unconstructive and divisive as it may be.

And to you, PeaceNikki, I'd like to take back my junior high comment, as you did not deserve that (but others do) and it's not constructive of me to have said it.

13. Well, thank you for posting about this.
There's a few people around here who delight in dragging the Clintons through the mud no matter what. Hell, those people are pissed that the Clintons are still drawing breath.

Thanks for posting this. That's great to know.

10. A campaign is always costly for the candidate, official donation or not.
In opportunity costs alone. They could have been earning money instead.
