6. Yeah baby!
John Kenneth Galbraith was once talking to JFK. JFK said that because of the nature of the sexual act, women inherently didn't have what it takes for true political leadership.

JKG said, "you've GOT to be kidding."
JFK said, "No, name me ONE woman who has what it takes to be president."
"Eleanor Roosevelt."
"Okay, but name me another..."

Here she is...

7. The fact that you realize it means you aren't dumb.
I'm not smart enough to explain it!

4. A delicate balance between F. D. Roosevelt and D. D. Eisenhower.
Liberally progressive with social programs, while strategically conservative on economic issues and military involvement.

From FDR:
http://www.nps.gov/archive/elro/glossary/roosevelt-franklin.htm
"In January 1941 he outlined the “Four Freedoms” on which he hoped that world would be founded: freedom of speech and expression, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear."

From DDE:
http://www.nps.gov/archive/elro/glossary/eisenhower-dwight.htm
"He trimmed the defense budget following the Korean War but approved an increase in Social Security. His administration was also responsible for the interstate highway system, one of the largest public works projects in American history. At the same time, Eisenhower worked to avoid the use of nuclear weapons and he cautioned the country against what he termed "the military-industrial complex," which he thought was aiding and abetting the arms race between the U.S. and the Soviet Union."

8. Lincoln
Edited on Sat Nov-29-08 03:08 PM by Two Americas
People in power don't "think like we do," unless we identify with and admire the ruling class. There is much authoritarianism and hero worship and cult of celebrity, and that causes people to believe that some powerful stranger "thinks like they do." What they mean is "if I were rich and famous, I would be like that person."

Lincoln came the closest to being a common person in a position of power in this country.

11. I think Obama due to our generational linkage
I can relate to so many of the things he describes being 4 months younger than he is. It's very comforting to me that he wasn't so isolated from "normal" society that he can joke about crap I can actually relate to.

18. None. That's why I never became President.
Edited on Sat Nov-29-08 08:08 PM by FrenchieCat
It would be overwhelming and a bit over my pay grade.

But to compare a man who has yet to be sworn in to those who have already served is quite an imbalance. In other words, it is unfair to Obama who has not even served a day as of now. :eyes:
