Can we rename the department of "Homeland Security?" |
|
It's always had vaguely Nazi-ish overtones.

1. Thank you for saying that. |

Actually, I'm in favor of abolishing it entirely. Return the agencies as they were before.
But you're right..."Homeland Security" sounds uncomfortably "The Triumph of the Will" like.

5. "Return the agencies as they were before." |

I agree. The larger agency was never needed in the first place. It was a convenient way to weed out money from agencies that the Bushies thought were not needed, like FEMA. It did also give a very Nazi sounding name to the whole thing, thus appealing to the Uber-Patriots in Bush's base. :puke:

IMO that would be better and take some of the Nazi-soundingness out.

on another thread, but someone else may have as well. Dept. of Domestic Security sounds good too. I sure hope Obama is considering this. I always hated the name "Homeland Security" it just doesn't sound right and doesn't fit in with all of the other US government agencies' names.

group or bi-partisan commission to review the whole "Homeland Security" department and submit recommendations. It's hard to believe that this behemoth of a department actually improves our security, even if you're naive enough to believe in it's good intentions.

It reminds me of the Soviet "Motherland." Why don't they just call it U.S. Security or Domestic Security.

17. And lets also start calling the war in Iraq what it is, the occupation in Iraq |
|
Really, there is no way to win an occupation, there is no enemy in Iraq who could put their hands up and say "we surrender America, you win the war in Iraq". If there's no enemy who can surrender to us, and therefore end the war, then it's not a war.

there was NO need to create a new department.. It was just a pay-back for Tom Ridge being overlooked, after he gave up his governorship..
