Beccera Turns Down Trade Rep Job.
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1208/Becerras_out.html

Becerra's out

Rep. Xavier Becerra tells the editorial board of La Opinion that he has turned down the job of U.S. trade representative, having concluded -- trade watchers take note -- that trade won't be the first, second, or third priority of the Obama administration.

This is the guy who wanted the U.S. Trade Rep position elevated to Cabinet Level status. I guess he didn't get his wish on that front. Oh well, I thought he might have been decent.

1. Hmmm
Not a priority in the sense of not pursuing anymore so-called free trade agreements? I'd say that's a good thing.

2. That sucks
I thought he'd be a really good person to have in that spot given what I'd found out about him. Maybe Obama will find someone of like mind. Going with Becerra was a definite sign of good judgment.

3. That's a shame.
He has a great voting record and is sharp as a tack. Nice guy too. I met him when I volunteered for his mayoral run after Riordan's second term (the one Hahn won). Too bad that pardon business is still hanging around his neck like a millstone.

4. Good. I like my rep.
Too bad I can't make the next "Coffee with your Congressman" meetup; I'd like to hear why he voted against the bail-out. It's not that I completely disagree, I just want to hear his take on it.

He's a great guy.
