Why don't we ever hear about the Religious Left? |
|
I am serious we are here and we go to church and believe in God just like the righteous right but you never hear about us.
I believe that we are more religious because we come with a heart unlike the repugs. We do believe in God and we do not push our beliefs off on others like they do.
The media never mentions the Christian Left or the Christan Liberals.
Why is that?

You answered yourself - you dont push your beliefs on others...thats why we dont hear about you. You dont wear your reliegion on a sleeve like those on the extreme right. They believe it is their duty to convert all to christianity. Thank god most people are more rational and considerate of others beliefs.

2. I consider myself part of the religious left |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-12-04 05:00 PM by noahmijo
Even though so far I'm been a very lousy Christian because I've expressed nothing but contempt and hatred towards the repukes and neo-cons. I try to help out when i can with the poor and everything, but lately I've just been fixiated on getting this Satanic bastard outta office.
The best Christians I know personally are the ones who you don't hear or even know. They're the ones out in some hellhole trying to heal refugees and impoverished people in Africa for example.
That's what the problem is. REAL Christians don't go out there and flaunt how good and noble they are, they act they actually do what Jesus would do, they work to lift the poor, to heal people, and they don't get in your face and demand that you be just like them otherwise face Hell, and unfortunately those are the types that have taken the spotlight.
Mother Teresa has been shoved over for the likes of Jerry Falwell.

3. Because they don't claim to be the Christian left |
|
They are simply Christians - real ones. And unfortunately, they are being drowned out by the louder voices of the fake Christians on the right. I just posted an article that speaks to this issue. I have distributed this to everyone I know that says they are voting for *Bush based on his so called Christian values. It has definitely helped me to show several of them the light. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x798881

I guess that means we are not as easily led by single issues or images.

it has been adopted with media and the right and the mouths on the right, ..........you cannot be a christian and vote democrat. two issue, that prove you are not christian. abortion and gays
so tell me why all hthe left religious arent yelling. why are the ministers and preachers of the left all allowing the right to take christianity away from you
yes, why are the left religion allowing themselves to be called non christians. i want to know
told a friend the other day, not even going to call myself christian anymore, cause the fundamentalist have claimed the term in a manner that i think takes me away from god. christianity is their word, i want no part of it from here on out
i am not a church goer, it is not for me to do. those that go to church every sunday, and who love their religion so, need to take it back. kerry a catholic is said to not be a christian, because a catholic cannot be
i'd be mad if i were a catholic

though I'd much prefer to be referred to as spiritual rather than religious.
We are quieter because we know those who are loudest about their religious beliefs are often the ones you really have to watch out for. A "who are they trying to convince?" kind of thing. I have no need to convince anyone, I have no need to show everyone how "moral" I am (especially since I know you don't have to be spritual or religious to be morally upstanding), I have no need for public displays of (false) piety.
I call them CINOs--Christian in Name Only.
Yeah, that's judgemental, sorry. But that's the way they strike me.
I do think the spritual/religious left might benefit from speaking up a bit, but I NEVER want to be like them. Never.

I don't accuse them of being hypocrites, but rather ask them to fit being against helping the needy through our government into Jesus' message. It's easy to conclude we should be joyful we can help others by writing a check before April 15, and impossible to conclude it's wrong. Here's an essay, "Jesus' case for socialized medicine and government welfare programs as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew"http://fearofclowns.com/text/jesus_on_welfare_matthew/

I feel mixing the two is wrong...both spiritually and politically.

I really don't care what the religious beliefs of an elected official are, as long as they don't cause him to harm others!!!

13. Here's another member of the religious left - |
|
A practicing Episcopalian and a Democrat. I don't know if I'm exactly left, I think I'm more centrist, but I am definitely a Christian.
Frankly, I can never understand why Bush, a professed Christian, would go to war on trumped-up charges or would allow his campaign to spread such nasty lies about Kerry.
Why do the Repugs run a dirtier campaign than the Dems? Newspeople and political experts on TV remark on the fact.:kick:

species--the Southern Baptist, Liberal Democrat! I don't try to use my religion as a weapon to bludgeon other people across the head with. And in a related note, when someone makes a BIG point of telling me just how big of a Christian they are, I know that they're probably either a crook or about to try to screw me over or both!

18. I think the Christian left |
|
is starting to "take back the faith" because they see it's being hijacked. I heard of one group that was making bumper stickers that say: "GOP does not spell GOD." I hope it's a growing movement.
One of my Southern Baptist (Democratic friends) thinks Kerry won't win any of the south because he's a Catholic, and everyone knows Catholics are heathens. :eyes:
I wish all of those Catholics who are voting for Shrub b/c of the abortion issue knew what Bush and his ilk *really* think about them.

15. At this point Kerry should probably appeal to "People of Faith" vote, |
|
because his "high road" and "injured" posture does not appeal to joe six-pack who only respects strenght.
A large part of the "swing" vote are people who identify themselves are "Christian" but are not comitted right-wingers.

No TV, no radio programs, no rallies, no organization. And they are entirely too apologetic about what they stand for, at least outside seminaries and bookstore signings.

the Black Religious Left (Sharpton, Jackson, Hosea Williams, etc.) are covered. Our candidates are shown in black churches but rarely in White Churches.

22. Media and Pundit characterizations get us nowhere... |
|
There is a reality in Quaker churches, in Christian churches is lower class communities, and in non-Christian meeting places that those who are paid to generalized for a $ would rather not face.
The Religious Right is better characterized as the One Issue Zealots but that's ONE term that the Media will not touch.
