But, why is Warren any better than Wright?

5. Why not?
He was Obama's pastor for 20 years---led him to Christianity, etc. Why dismiss Wright for a homophobe like Warren??

21. I think it is because
Who the man, Reverand Wright is.

Is not who the people think he is.

He has been painted as someone he is not. Sure he has flaws, but most people are unwilling or unable to listen to what he says that make sense, knowing some is correct, some is not. Just like all of us.

So before putting him up on stage, the whole population would require being told who he is not, and who he is. Something that was not done during the election campaign.

On edit: Even though I'm a person "of faith," I don't think there should be a prayer at an inauguration of a US President.

Most people don't understand Liberation Theology. Obama should never have left his church, IMO. But, one does what one has to do when trying to get elected. Don't blame him for it.

But you know what? Our task is done on the election front. Now our votes have to be earned in order to maintain power. We'll see if the party gets it. There is no appearance yet they do.

13. why? seriously, why should he?
Rev Wright and Obama had a serious personal conflict. We don't know the particulars, but it seems they're estranged, so why should he have him there. What's wrong with Reverend Lowery?

Why doesn't he have a serious conflict with Rick Warren? As long as he's going to pick someone offensive to people, why not pick someone who was his pastor for 20 years, and not a homophobe??

What did you think I was trying to say?

He can't even get a puppy for his girls without folks sending him petitions about what kind to get and where to get it.

Everyone has advice for what he should do. That's dictating to me.

30. Oh. I don't see it as dictating...
that would mean we have some kind of power to force him to do everything we want. I think of it more as expressing an opinion.

I've never seen so many people tell the President what he needs to do.

31. Wright is a talented preacher and cares about social justice.
Warren, on the other hand, is just a garden variety fundamentalist who has convinced a lot of people--including quite a few on DU--that he is some kind of thoughtful moderate.
