Saudis, Blackwater among Clinton foundation donors
By BETH FOUHY and SHARON THEIMER – 8 hours ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Bill Clinton laid out a list of big-ticket donors to his foundation Thursday that is heavy with foreign governments and business interests sure to have a stake in the policies that Hillary Rodham Clinton carries out as secretary of state.

Saudi Arabia and other foreign governments gave at least $46 million, while corporate donors included the Blackwater security firm that protects U.S. diplomats in Iraq.

The contributions went to the William J. Clinton Foundation, a nonprofit created by the former president to finance his library in Little Rock, Ark., and charitable efforts to reduce poverty and treat AIDS. President-elect Barack Obama made Hillary Clinton's nomination as secretary of state contingent on her husband revealing the foundation's contributors, to avoid questions about potential conflicts of interest.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia gave $10 million to $25 million to the foundation, and other government donors included Norway, Kuwait, Qatar, Brunei, Oman, Italy and Jamaica. The Dutch national lottery gave $5 million to $10 million.

8. ??? That's crazy ...
I posted a news article from a reputable source without comment and THAT is somehow an attack???

I'm so sorry for posting a true story...

My mistake...

:eyes:

Might I suggest instead that YOU are fixated on DEFENDING the Clintons from imaginary attacks???

9. Nope...two is enough for me.. post a third one if you want...
I posted the first one asking for facts which no one volunteered.

This one is where I went out and got them from Google.

That's enough for me.

If you feel a need for a third thread knock yourself out.

15. These guys - like a lot of dubious folks - alcohol, tobacco, etc....
contribute to ALL the major outfits like this. Just as they contribute to both presidential candidates.

The Saudis, in particular, throw money everywhere globally. If you're running a charity, you take it.

Yeah, it stinks, but that's the way it works.

Working in DC opened my eyes to this crap. Howard Dean's campaign manager did a whole lot of work with tobacco and lead paint, but he was still a progressive guy.

16. You sound like you are making my case for me...
people with dubious reputations donate to reputable organizations that do good works... that sounds like they expect a little reputability to rub off on them...

On the other hand someone has made a good point that the CF kept BW's donation a secret so how could they get good PR off of it?

I guess it could just be a case of a BW exec wanted a picture for their office wall with WJC and ten grand was a pretty reasonable price for some office art?

18. I would concur...
people like this buy everything and they think the can buy respectability too... they don't realize it isn't that simple...

The Rockefellers and Carnegies and Vanderbilts were probably the first to try this in America...
