oy. what a mess DU is at this particular moment |

lots of heat, not much light and it's like groundhog day- the movie, not the actual thing. The same stuff keeps getting repeated ad nauseum. Everything's been reduced to the lowest possible standard of discourse.

Vision and understanding does not come from treating people you disagree with, like filth. It just rips camaraderie apart.
Those who do this are as bad as the Freepers in how they treat people.

I said sparks and heat.. not abuse.
There are honest and wonderful people who speak heatedly about their views and try to explain them.. even if they are wrongheaded.
What's good is that there is some wonderful language and thought coming out of this that would have lain dormant without the passionate conflict to motivate them ...

there is a lot of pent up frustration at not being heard.
It seems to me that the broad consensus is that Obama is doing a good job and that we disagree with him about Warren.
Would it be a better place if a guy like Warren is included and DU wasn't pissed?

|
I know you aren't, or at least I hope not, but honestly what is the alternative to getting "pissed" about the Warren fiasco (and a fiasco it is, you won't change my mind about that)? As I've said before, no one should fear criticism of Mr. Obama - it won't make the whole thing come crashing down, and it might actually do some good.

32. To remove Fundamentalist Christian influence from our Government... |
|
We would have to remove the fundamentalist christians from our nation. As this in impractical, one may assume that we will have to at the very least acknowledge their existance. Not acknowledging a brick wall does not nullify the damage done to your car and self when you crash into it at 90 mph.

We can acknowledge Warren's existence and then make sure to get as far away from him as possible.

12. I really dont know what Obama is thinking in some of his choices |
|
He was elected solely on the basis that voters were tired of the right wing politics that has had a death grip on our country since Reagan was elected in 1980.
So in response he chooses to ignore that and pander to those right wingers?
I expected him to have a better sense of the country's mood than he's displaying so far.

If people simply wanted the exact opposite policies of Bush, but not the change in tone, John Edwards (before Baby-gate) or Dennis Kucinich would've done a lot better than they did.

I still voted for him because it seemed as though there were no other choice.
However.. I think it's really up to the people to get active and propel the real change this country needs.
We're certainly not going to get it from our leaders if we don't.

There's little discourse among those who disagree, mostly flaming and calling each other names, the kind of behavior that we see on Free Republic and criticize the Freepers for.
Flame me all you want, but I've come to believe that the hard left is just as blind as the hard right. If anyone dares to disagree with one aspect of the ideology, then you're treated like something worse than the filthy gum on the sole of one's shoe.
Maybe being an intense ideologue does that to you. I don't know. But it's discouraging.

but this one hurts. It will be remembered as a sad start to what we all hoped would be wondrous day, without protest and disappointment.
Pretty sure when Warren's fat face graces the stage on January 20th, he will greeted with loud disapproval. Is that what Obama wanted on the day of his inauguration? It should have been a day of millions coming together to celebrate, not to boo.

It comes down to respect. A strong supporting group in our democratic family has been insulted right after a stinging defeat and the lack of compassion on the issue is what this comes down to.
Telling people to shut-up, chill out, and to bite their lip (I'm not calling you out Cali) is a sure way they are going to get more upset because they are going to believe, rightfully so, that people who are supposed to be their allies are not really with them.

That's what Obama said yesterday.
If you don't like the discourse, try any other progressive site and you'll get more of the same. People are upset, is that okay with you?
If the white pastor were against blacks would Obama still have him speak? Yes that's been said before, but it bears repeating

No where have I said that people don't have the right to be upset. No where have I indicated that I think that Obama hasn't made a grievous error. In fact, I've posted just that. Pay attention.
Oh, and I do frequent other progressive sites. wrong on that detail too.

86 threads get started about the same basic outrage of the day, because each OP poster wants to be the center of attention for a while. Everybody grouses and rants, then it's a circle flamejerk, and eventually another end-of-the-world outrage or scandal comes along. Meanwhile, not much gets done.

If it isn't Obama, it's Warren. If it isn't Warren, it's Caroline. If it isn't Caroline, it's Favreau. If it isn't any of the above, it's one of the Clintons or both. Unfortunately, this forum thrives on negativity. Without it, this place would fizzle out.

You ARE in control. Read what you like, or not. YOU are responsible.
YOUR thread contributes to the situation you are whining about.
Once more: YOU are responsible. If you find the discussions at DU are repetitious, perhaps you should get another hobby.
On Edit: I recommended your earlier thread today. I found it uncharacteristically thoughtful and sensitive. Perhaps DU should learn that once you post YOUR opinion, it is time to move on?
