My advice to Caroline Kennedy: Stay away from those Democratic vipers in New York...for now |
|
Yes, she should tell Governor Paterson "thanks but no thanks" and run for the Senate seat in 2010. Let him appoint someone else for now. All the vipers are coming out of the woodwork, Ackerman, Geraldine Ferraro, and even Nita Lowey is joining the fracas (and behind the scenes I am sure that Carolyn McCarthy must be up to something) to prevent Caroline Kennedy from getting to the Senate. God knows what Nydia Velasquez is thinking or planning but we'll know soon enough. Gov. Paterson may say that he does not like dynasties (but he himself is a product of a dynasty, son of Basil Paterson an influential political figure in New York) and Governor Paterson may be "frustrated" that he "floated' Kennedy's name and now feels "pressured" to nominate her and he does not like it. The NYT reports that everyone is frustrated, including Andrew Cuomo who really wants the seat but has to contend with CKS and the political fallout if he were to oppose her.
So Caroline, please come out immediately and remove yourself from this process. Let the vipers kill each other for the seat. Do not allow yourself to be left twisting in the wind becoming a target of the prostitute MSM, the GOP, and PUMAs like Geraldine Ferraro that still have not come to terms with Barack Obama's victory and ascent to the Presidency. Let Paterson award the seat to Andrew Cuomo or Nita Lowey (who would lose her influence in the House of Representatives to become the most junior of the junior Senators) or to one of the Ackerman puppets and run for the seat yourself in 2010 giving you plenty of time to get your profile up in Syracuse, Binghamton, Rochester, Utica, Rome, Schenectady and the rest of Upstate New York and you will win easily (just do your Listening Tour like Hillary did and learn to handle the piranhas in the NYC press corps

7. No name calling, just shining light on the vipers and scorpions in NY politics |
|
that feel entitled to the seat because they are professional politicians after all and have lived off our tax dollars fattening themselves up, so the Senate seat its their logical next step. I'd rather have a shy, laconic, private citizen who has worked behind the scenes to improve education and the lives of New Yorkers than the self-serving politicians full of bluster who have worked in the spotlights and the media glare to improve their own lives.

8. I don't agree. The appointee will be the incumbent in 2010 |
|
and if Caroline runs against a Dem incumbent she'll catch hell like Teddy did in 1980. No, I don't think that's good advice at all. This is definitely Caroline's moment, and ready or not if she wants to make a difference she's got to get in there now, and I think she realizes that.

9. If she wants it, she should stay in. The vipers will never go away. |
|
If she wants into the game, she might as well learn to deal with 'em now. They won't make it any easier in 2010.

13. I believe if she stays in, and starts talking about what some of her policy positions are and |
|
sounds reasonably intelligent, then she has a good shot. But if she keeps on avoiding the MSM and not answering policy questions directly, and saying "I'm a mom, etc." in response to what has prepared her for the job, she'll continue to get skewered, and IMO rightly so.

Upstate New York with three newly elected Dem NY Congressmen(Eric Massa, Paul Tonka, & Dan Maffei) weighing in on Caroline Kennedy's bid for Hillary's seat and they were all surprisingly Positive!
Maybe 'cause they're newbies?

19. What a nonsense post. |
|
Basically it sounds like you think any NY Democrat not named CKS is a bad person, or a "viper." That's hyperbolic nonsense, and there are plenty of good Democrats who are plenty qualified for the seat. They probably want the seat because they already have been serving New Yorkers, and in some cases for many many years. Velazquez has been representing New Yorkers in office for about 20 years now, I can't imagine why she thinks she might be more deserving of this appointment than CKS.

the strength it can get. Go "sweet Caroline." Not that I am agreeing with the labeling but she will have her detractors should she accept the seat. I think she will take the seat in love of her uncle Ted more than please to see her keep an eye on him.

24. Wow! Nerve of those people thinking they may be better suited and have a record of public service |
|
Screw Ferraro, she can drop dead for all I care but any of the other people you mentioned have been in public service for years. I can't imagine why they'd be teed that some Caroline come lately has suddenly become the hot ticket because of name recognition.
Vipers? Why are New Yorkers being described with the same reptilian adjective people reserve for Republicans?
