Let's seat Roland Burris under one simple condition... |
|
He has to wear a Blago wig.

9. Holey Wow! Now we know |
|
why he must have that Senate appointment! His mausoleum destiny must be fulfilled:bounce: I don't even believe how this more than verifies my suspicion that he has an oversized id. This writer has an accurate view of Mr Burris, imo.. 13. "Mr Burris Goes To Washington" <snips> "Right now I just want to say one thing: I don't know much about this guy or his career thus far, however, he has already started out firmly on my bad side. Maybe he would have been a decent choice for a legitimate governor to appoint, I don't know, but what I do know is that I don't like him, and from what I've seen he is a complete moron. Why? Well...
1) He actually accepted the job (which was turned down by at least one other person first) from a person who is pretty much unanimously seen as illegitimate. Suffice to say, he showed pretty bad judgment. To me, it looks like he wanted power, and this was the only way it was going to happen. Better to accept it from a crook, than to not have it at all, right Burris?
2) He came out of the gate threatening Democrats, vowing to go to court to weasel his way into the Senate, against the wishes of pretty much everyone. Sense of entitlement, anyone?
3) Without skipping a beat, he also claimed that the would be "a major outcry" from the people of Illinois if he wasn't seated, because a corrupt man who Illinois voters overwhelmingly agreed should not be able to make the appointment, made it. Delusions of grandeur, anyone?
4) And as if that wasn't all bad enough, last night he said this, of his epic quest to claw his way into the Senate: "We are hoping and praying that they will not be able to deny what the Lord has ordained." Excuse me? "what the Lord has ordained"?? The Lord? Is that what we are calling Governor Rod "Bleepin' Golden" Blagojevich now? The Lord? I don't know what is worse, that Burris actually seems to think Blago is god or an instrument of god, or that Burris actually seems to think that god gives a shit about him filling this Senate seat. Hey Burris, GET OVER YOURSELF!
Oh yeah, and here comes the bonus round:
5) Hey, Rep. Bobby Rush, STFU!: At the sendoff event for Roland Burris last night, Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL) continued to present the controversy around Burris' appointment in strictly racial terms. Rush declared that the resistance of the Democratic leadership to seating Burris was "the last bastion of racial plantation politics in America."<<<<more>>>> http://www.thepersonalispolitical.com/

6. So you don't think he needs to wear a Blago wig? |
|
Actually, I say we punt. Give Burris the seat. Move on. If he's any good, he'll get reelected in 2010, but based on his past tries in elections, he'll lose anyway.
Like you said, there's way too much other stuff to have to go after.

7. No way will Burris get re-elected in 2010 |
|
There's no fucking way he'd win. At least one-third of the Democrats in the state would never vote for his egotistical ass.

11. Okay, so what have we got to lose in allowing his appointment to stand. |
|
Blago has not been officially convicted, so his appointment is legal.

13. The process of appointment was TAINTED |
|
that is undeniable.
Ergo, the appointment is tainted.
It's no different than if Norm Coleman had cast 150,000 votes for himself and he was certified the winner any way. The Senate wouldn't seat somebody who won via an obviously crooked election any more than they can seat somebody who was appointed in an obviously crooked process for appointment.

Again, you are simply proving that the voice of reason can always be found on DU. :) Like you said, if he sucks, he won't be re-elected, but somehow I don't think he'll suck. This guy has some fight. I like that.

I've never been able to warm up to people who refer to themselves as 'we'. Nevertheless, I think the Senate should seat the guy. Harry Reid should save his new-found toughness for the Republicons.

18. Such fallacious arguments. Number one: what politician isn't an |
|
egotist? Number two: if you do not like Burris, do not vote for him in 2010, if he runs. Number three: Burris is legally appointed by a governor according to the laws os the state. Number four: even though the governor may be guilty, it has not been proven in a court of law, the legislature has not impeached him and he may be found not guilty (of everything but stupidity, he has already proven himself guilty of that.) Isn't the rule of law what we have been hoping would return to the USA? Number five: Fitzgerald did everything he could to prejudice his own case in his statements to the press, so the likelihood of a guilty verdict may be mute. Number six: Harry Reid is an imbecile who should never have started this media circus regarding the appointment. Number seven: Harry Reid spoke to the guv himself, trying to influence Blago's choice, so his subsequent action and reaction leave a bad taste in my mouth. I am calling Reid everyday to tell him so because he is a loser and a pathetic Majority Leader, who should himself resign. He wants Blago to resign, but he, Harry Reid, is much more dangerous to American democracy than that joker in Illinois. Just one example: Reid is the one who decided to bring the Intelligence Committee version (excusing the crimes of the AT&Ts) of the FISA bill to the floor, instead of the much more reasonable Judical Committee one. I will never forget or forgive that flawed leadership. He has no right to cast any stones at anyone.
