One toilet for every 6,000 people (at the Inaugural) |
|
Edited on Tue Jan-06-09 08:56 AM by Clio the Leo
Dude on MSNBC is reporting there will be only 1 toilet for every 6,000 people on the mall.
I have ONE word for that...... ewwwwww!!!!
Where *I* will be watching, there will be three bathrooms for every two people ...... and it will be 72 degrees. (Unless I get cold at which point I'll turn up the thermostat some more.)
And you can not only bring large bags, you can bring any kind of recording device you want to, you can bring your cat, a steak knife, wads of paper to throw at Dick Cheney (and you'll have a pretty good shot at him) and you dont have to wear shoes.
I eat, sleep, drink and breathe Barack Obama .... but I dont get it. I wouldn't get anywhere NEAR that mess.
And the ONE thing no one's mentioning ..... 1985 .... Ronald Reagan ...... blizzard ..... oath of office administered INSIDE the Capitol!
Those of you who ARE going .... you are in my prayers. :)

5. Can't really afford to. |
|
Besides, getting back into town for work on Tuesday would be a far greater nightmare if I left town than it probably will be anyway. It's gonna suck - no question about it.
Thank you for your prayers.

4. OK that whole bathroom thing |
|
just strikes fear into my heart.
I have to have almost immediate access to one at all times. Makes traveling sort of a pain, but what can you do.
Anyway, I'll be watching from home also...74 degrees (thank you pellet stove)....one bathroom for each resident of the home (two of us)...hot coffee, a couple of old doggies lying on the rugs with us, did I mention ready access to a bathroom? ha ha.... nobody coughing or sneezing in my general direction....knitting to keep my hands occupied....
ahhhhhhh................
:)

6. There have been large events at the mall before, so why is there |
|
such an issue with toilets this time? I keep hearing about this. Is it to maybe encourage folks to not show up at Obama's inauguration? Sour grapes because there are so many people that want to be there? Kinda makes me wonder.

January 2007. We were bussed to the subway and took care of ourselves from there. There were people but in no way was it gridlock. I think double the number will not be that much worse. I just got word this morning that we will be heading to DC to stay with a friend. We are really excited. Plan to play it by ear totally. Let ya know how it goes. Peace, Kim

and I know someone on the medical side in govt that is scared to death something will go wrong. The hospitals will not be able to handle even the minimum normal stuff that happens when you get a crowd this big together and this will be a first if the number they expect show up.

7. Crowd control by discouragement, |
|
I guess.
Advertise there will be a minimum of porta potties and lots of people won't bother to show up for that reason alone.
Saying that, I'm glad I'm staying home and watching it on TV.

13. One phrase: personal urination device. my husband has one per his job with the electric company |
|
He is driving around all day, shutting people off or collecting payments per his job as field collector and well...no bathroom around and you got a personal urination device! A little bottle thingie you can pee into. Probably easier for men them women and nothing for #2 but what are you going to do? Either that or prepare to hold it longtime.

I've been at events on the Mall where there were inadequate porta potties, and, wow. Wow, wow, wow is all I can say. One 4th of July fireworks display is particularly pungent in my mind. x(

As for Reagan ducking out of some snow - he was from southern CA. Obama's from northern IL. He may wear long underwear under that suit, but he'll be outside.
