1. Mister Smith Goes To Washington, is how they're playing this. |
|
Mister Smith is the idealist appointed by the corrupt governor.
Only Mister Smith is black and gets crapped on by the white boys...

5. Burris isn't a bad guy. He may not be superlative, but he's an honest fellow. |
|
He's not an asshole, either.

Nobody who would accept an appointment from Blagojevich is honest as far as I'm concerned.

7. My mileage surely varies. Blago did this for a reason, SURE...and Burris |
|
took the job because he figured he could make chicken salad out of chicken shit. He thought he could do some good in the winter of his life. He also wanted to secure his legacy.
Here's the bottom line.
WE are a nation of LAWS.
Blago has been convicted of.... NOTHING. He is still the governor of IL, and still in charge. We can "know" he is corrupt, but in America, we don't shoot first and ask questions later. We have the trial BEFORE we convict.
The sitting governor has nominated a replacement for the vacated Senate seat. The certification by the SECSTATE is ceremonial. It's not needed to make the nomination stick.
This is going to bite our Dem Senate in the ass. It's as though THEY (like Blago) are thumbing their nose at the rule of law. It will be even worse if Blago's lawyers are able to convince a judge that Fitgerald had his head up his ass and overreached.
It's also rather difficult for the Seante Democrats, with a straight face, to trade Caroline Kennedy a Senate seat for some of her powerhouse fundraising ability (quid pro quo), and not seat the choice of a sitting, unconvicted governor.

9. Mr. Idiot Goes to Washington and gets turned away |

cry me a river. I don't think this guy should have ever accepted this appointment by a corrupt governor, he knew what would happen. Blago did it to spite Obama for not "playing his game". Just for that they should turn him away. See ya.
