What will you be doing on January 20?
Me, I'm going to take the day off and celebrate the transition from the sorriest loser of a president any of us will ever see to one of the best leaders we've ever had. (Maybe God doesn't hate America after all.)

I must admit that I am concerned about the effects of 6 billion people around the world simultaneously heaving a huge sigh of relief. I hope it doesn't throw the planet out of its orbit or anything.

Anyway, I'm looking for a unique way to celebrate. Any thoughts?

1. I'm also taking the day off.
I have a bottle of champagne in the fridge. Since it will be morning here, I'll make mimosas for me and my neighbors.

3. Working
though I'll be watching proceedings online. No sound card at work, so I'll just get visuals. Will check in here when time permits.

6. I will be working;
progress reports are due out on the 20th, and I have another after school meeting that day.

Then I'll go home, do barn chores, haul firewood, stoke the coals in the wood stove, cook dinner, eat it, clean up after it, and sit down to correct a stack of papers.

I'll call my mom, recently out of the hospital, to check on her, pick up a book, and probably fall asleep over it. The dog and cat will coordinate efforts to wake me up, at which point I'll reload the wood stove one more time, turn off all the lights, and fall into bed until the alarm goes off at 4:30 the next morning.

It is set on NPR, who will no doubt tell me all about the inauguration as I force myself out of bed and into the morning routine.

Why?

8. Working.
January 20 is supposed to be a city holiday in Rio, but the company swapped it with Monday so people would have a continuous work week and a three-day weekend. I think that's great, not only because of the weekend but because I'll be going to work in the 20th with no traffic!

And, I get to have a day off with everything open.

Why couldn't the inauguration be on Monday, MLK's birthday? I'm off then.
