Poll question: If bush was polling at 20% and ANY Dem would beat him... |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 02:41 AM by stopbush
who would you nominate as the party's standard bearer? Assume any Dem will win in a historic landslide. Who do you think has the best ideas to turn this country around and undo the damage of bushco? Who, philosophically, is your ideal Dem candidate? Whose cuisine reigns supreme?

Almost perfectly the right recipe of Left and Libertarian for my tastes.
Basically, the half-dozen times or so he's been in a Senate vote with fewer than 5 or so colleagues who agreed with him, I've agreed with him too.

8. I voted Dean but Feingold would warrant very serious consideration |

My favorite Senator for sure since the tragic death of Wellstone.

Clark. But if we would be sure to win, I think I might be swayed over to Feingold (as suggested) - though I would need to research more about him first. I would like to see them work together. :)

4. Dennis Kucinich isn't paying a single person on DU |
|
I wonder if the other candidates can say that?

not a direct payment but a payment that would reward this generation and future generations, and not just in the US either.

Are you insinuating that candidate supporters on DU are paid moles? That seems a bit outlandish to me.

13. Some of the early Clark postings looked very "professionally-prepared" |
|
It was like one day, this board was swamped with that material and a handful of fresh, new posters.

I could be paid for wasting so much time here. Is Clark hiring moles? Does anyone know? :)

I just got a handsome check from the Clark campaign, and all I had to do was click on a poll. It's great work if you can get it.

Wes Clark's candidacy doesn't exist in a vacuum. His candidacy is a product of current circumstance, and I think he provides the best way out of its problems.
Simply put: I see him as an ideal "transitional" figure who - backed by that imaginary landslide - can take the country to a point where Dennis Kucinich or Carol Mosely Braun would reign supreme.
The reason I'm thinking "transition" has to do with my reluctance to accept "revolutionary recipes." Political trauma costs heaps of lives, and I refuse to "factor in" massive social confrontation.
Fuses are too easy to ignite, and the key to the problem isn't with the eventual victims, but their current government.
Just a more elaborate rationale for my answer...

I would give anything for Gore to be president. I think he would be an incredible American leader.

If Bush were so despised, the 2000 election would be less of a "distraction" and Gore would be a candidate.
He is clearly the best prepared man in America to be president.
If not Gore, Howard Dean.

16. I would still go for Clark but... |
|
I would want a Clark/Kucinich ticket. DK would be the most effective VP ever.

He's pretty much even with Dean & Clark. No surprises on Lieberman or Sharpton.

18. Great poll. This is more like we should be thinking |
|
Head to head, I think Dean, Clark, Edwards, and Kerry can beat Bush. Thus, I'm supporting Dean because he is the one I agree with and enjoy the most. To me, this was what the primary was to be about: which one of our guys/gal would be the best president? I don't buy all this "we'll get trounced if..." at least not for our major candidates.

19. Thank you. That was my intent... |

to remove all the media-driven "electability" issues from the table and see which candidate would get your nod if it was your heart that was doing the nodding. That's obviously the reason that DK is doing so well here - remove the "can't be elected" spin and he emerges as a strong, non-DLC-influenced, traditional Dem candidate.
Sometimes we seem to forget these things - we get so wrapped up in the punditry that we end up buying into it without even realizing we're being suckered. Of course, DU is an unique situation because we're members of the "passionate and informed wing of the Democratic party."
Still, it's interesting how the media's "viable" candidates are getting hosed here.
