Is the Club for Growth ad anti gay?
KURTZ: The harshest ad this week is scheduled to debut today in Iowa as part of a $100,000 buy by the conservative Club for Growth. The group, which previously slammed Dean for promising to repeal the Bush tax cuts, uses ridicule in a couple’s conversation.
The man declares, “Howard Dean should take his tax-hiking, government-expanding, latte-drinking, sushi-eating, Volvo-driving, New York Times-reading . . .” His wife picks up the litany: “Hollywood-loving, left-wing freak show back to Vermont, where it belongs.”

Stephen Moore, the club’s president, said the “humorous” spot may not hurt Dean with Democratic primary voters. “To us it’s the first general election ad,” he said.

“Left-wing freak show?” What could that mean? Any chance that “left-wing freak show” is just ClubSpeak meaning “gay marriage?” Luckily, the club’s hairy spot is meant to be “humorous,” so none of this matters a lick.

The above isn't my theory but Bob Sommerby's. I honestly don't know what I think. But one does wonder.

2. She (the wife) also says
"body piercing"

I think it's anti-youth - the couple is decidedly senior and they seem to be against the new-fangled.

5. You might direct your comment to the man whose theory it is
as I attributed and linked in my post. (Bob Sommersby in case you missed it)

6. I almost agree with him
It's stretching a bit to call this anti-gay, and probably stretching it to call it coded anti-gay, but the anti-gay rhetoric will be overt, not coded, in the Bush vs. Dean election. I hope everyone realizes this, that's all.

8. I think it depends on what source you consult during the election
If you are watching 700 Club there will probably be a lot of railing against "Sodomite desecration of marriage" or some other phrase they will make up.

If Bush himself were to say this, I'd be quite surprised. He might code it as "preserving the sanctity of marriage" similar to his administration "respects life" rather than "condemns abortionist baby-killers to hell"

7. This is a despicable ad - it's anti-human, anti-logic, anti-common sense
It shows how desperate they are, and how low they will sink to smear.

I hope they keep up these lame ads, they will backfire on them...nothing this lame can be successful...

10. I thought they pretty much offended everybody in the ad
not to mention how bad the acting was--my hubby said it looked like one of those life insurance ads you see late at night.
Seriously, they really hit alot of people and their families in that ad, who the hell hasn't been to a coffee shop--even the Starbucks has a drive thru in my southern town.

11. grasping at straws
let's not invent things to feign politically correct moral outrage over, ok?

There are plenty of real issues to dissect without the conspiracy theories. This just makes us look silly. :tinfoilhat:

12. I finally saw the ad, and laughed my ass off
...at the people who made it, and actually thought it was a good idea to air it.

I don't know if it's possible to do self-parody on the first try, but the "Club For Growth" has come awful close.
