From The Left: I want a suitable answer from the Obama inaugural team about Robinson
Edited on Tue Jan-20-09 12:03 AM by Bluebear
HBO is having none of it. They’re punting the blame squarely back to the Obama inaugural team for scheduling the openly gay Rev. Gene Robinson’s invocation prayer before the start of the broadcast feed.
I’ve received a number of emails from people imploring me from pushing this story until after the inauguration tomorrow. Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen. I want an suitable answer from the Obama inaugural team explaining why they scheduled Rev. Gene Robinson before the start of the broadcast feed.

2. But everyone told me that no media outlets were covering this story.
And they said that anything HBO says is a lie, because the Inaugural Committee said so.

And they also said that everyone was able to hear the Bishop, even people in Fairfax County could hear it.

And they told me that the gay men's chorus was there too so it was okay, because they had them on stage at the same time as the Navy Glee Club.

I don't know what to believe anymore. I think I need some ice cream.

7. Recommended.
What the hell was Team Obama thinking? It's hard to believe they are this tone deaf to the GLBT community.

of today's poutrage (The Inauguration Eve Edition.)

And if Obama's people actually cared about this micro-blip of nonsense, and were just out to score points, they'd deny this was their fault, and throw it back on the God Almighty HBO - is there another contemporary cultural institution that more richly deserves to be taken down a peg?

Harvey "Jabba" Weinstein's old project, this HBO, is nothing more nor less than mind poison for the elite: the "pay extra" network that innundates us with convicts, gangsters and whores, that regales us with potty-mouthed anti-humanist gratuitous violence ... but since it's the "pay extra" network beloved by the latte-drinkers -- it's highbrow, don't you know! And it wins all those awards, why, it's our Shakespeare! Our Goethe! The finest flowers of our best and our brightest!

13. What motive is there
to deliberately exclude Bishop Robinson from the televised coverage? They've said they made a mistake, and I have to assume it was the kind of mistake where you do something accidentally, not where you do it on purpose and label it a 'mistake' only when people get upset. Do you believe that Obama harbors a secret hate of gay people and is expressing it in various passive-aggressive ways?

15. The announcement of Robinson's prayer was supposed to re-assure people
About the choice of Warren for the Invocation.

And then, unless you were there, you didn't get to see Robinson's prayer.

16. ok, 1) that doesn't answer my question
and 2) "supposed to reassure people", as in GLBT people? Who says? They claim Robinson was in the works before the whole Warren thing blew up.

17. So you don't believe the timing of the Robinson announcement wasn't meant to quell
disappointment in the selection of Warren?

And no, "supposed to reassure people" meant all people against bigotry.

18. It may or may not have; that's not the point.
People are upset about Robinson not being included in the telecoverage. I'm asking what motive the IC would have had for excluding him.

19. Far be it for me to speculate
The fact remains that the "answer" to the Warren problem was not shown on the telecast (aka much wider audience.)

20. The motive *might* have been to avoid the appearance of....
... of "condoning" or "tolerating" the "homosexual life style".

You are un-familiar with this mentality? I can assure you that it is in no short supply among many ( not most ; not all; "many") Obama supporters.

21. I doubt they did this deliberately, simply because
it makes them look so bad. Anyone would know this would blow up in their faces, and in fact, Robinson is getting much more coverage because of this than he would have otherwise. If Obama were that intent on marginalizing gay people, he wouldn't include them in every speech he gives.
